‎Italy's - Monte Gargano - Historic Towns‎

‎Schilderung des Gebirges Gargano in Apulien. [Description of Mount Gargano in Apulia.]‎

‎8vo. 10 pages. Text is in German. This is a complete monthly issue, containing the above mentioned account. Attractively bound booklet style in recent blue paper covers with label. This issue contains a description of Mount Gargano, in Apulia, Italy, by Danish-French geographer and journalist, Conrad Malte-Brun, drawing from his "Annales des Voyages," translated by Dr. Nobile. The region was once part of the Kingdom of Sicily, then the Kingdom of Naples, and at the time of this publication, had recently fallen under the reign of the French. French control endured from 1806-1815, resulting in the abolition of feudalism and the reformation of the justice system. Includes features and population for the towns of Viesti, Manfredonia, Monte Sant'Angelo, San Marco in Lamis, San Giovanni Rotondo, Riguano, Vico, Peschici, Ischitella, Rodi, Cagnano, Carpino, and Apricena. These are the original pages printed in 1808, and NOT a reprint. This narrative is from a rare multi-volume geographical and scientific journal titled "Allgemeine Geographische Ephemeriden", which issued fifty volumes from 1798-1816 and which encompassed critical contemporary topics of geography and astronomy. Adam Christian Gaspari and Franz Xaver von Zach were editors of this important scientific journal.‎

‎, Brepols - Harvey Miller, 2025 Hardback, Pages: 406 p. Size:216 x 280 mm, Illustrations:140 b/w, 16 col. Language(s):Italian, English. NEW. ISBN 9782503609997.‎

‎J Watson Lyall (Ed)‎

‎The Sportsman's and Tourist's Guide to the Rivers Lochs Moors & Deer Forests of Scotland‎

‎J. Watson Lyall & Co. Ltd. 1915. Softcover. Used - Acceptable/None. Spine and binding are fine. The indexes section at the front is tanning heavily though legible; the remaining sections from Section I onwards have barely any sign of tanning and are very clean. Faded soft leather cover with spine which is scuffed on the lower third. There is a large fold out map bound at the front and I believe another map is missing from a slip also at the front. Very interesting book with equally interesting adverts. J. Watson Lyall & Co. Ltd. paperback‎

‎J zef Dobosz‎

‎Church and Cistercians in Medieval Poland. Foundations, Documents, People‎

‎, Brepols, 2023 Hardback, 347 pages, Size:156 x 234 mm, Illustrations:14 b/w, 5 tables b/w., 6 maps b/w, Language: English. ISBN 9782503598024.‎

‎Summary In this volume, the research of J zef Dobosz, one of Poland's leading historians of the Middle Ages, is made accessible in English for the first time. It brings together nineteen studies focused on the role of the Church, the Cistercian Order, and other religious institutions in the history of the Piast realm from which Poland emerged. The introduction offers a broad outline of the first two centuries of the rule of the Piast dynasty after the Baptism of Poland in 966 until the fragmentation of the Piast patrimony during the twelfth century. The subsequent essays examine the circumstances of the foundation of Poland's leading Cistercian monasteries in Sulej w, J?drzej w, W?chock, Owi?ska, and ?ekno. The author analyses the means of their establishment, evaluates the existing sources, and places these within the context of the Piast dynasty's economic, political, and social policies. The studies offer an in-depth analysis of the motivations of the leading dynasts, magnates, and prelates in supporting the mission of the Church in Poland and enabling further embedding of Christianity across all strata of the society. The author examines the oldest Polish documents related to Cistercian monasteries and canons regular (in particular foundation charters) including early medieval charter forgeries. The volume's key conclusions about the impact of Christianity on nascent Poland are based on a detailed examination of medieval charters, the role of scriptoria, identities of significant people of the Church, and the wider historical record.
