‎Sm. 8vo., with 22 double-page maps coloured in outline and a large folding coloured map, all on japon, street directory tabbed by initial letter, some very age-browning; original red cloth, upper board blocked and lettered in silver, a remarkably bright, clean copy. Lovely copy of a beautifully constructed, comprehensive and detailed pocket plan. The double-page maps comprise Paris, the Metro, 20 individual arrondissements, three arrondissements with detailed insets, and the Bois de Boulogne. The large coloured map depicts Paris by arrondissement (obverse) and metro lines and autobus routes (reverse). The two parallel tabbing systems (streets & localities, and maps) enable one to pinpoint any given location simply and easily. Very scarce in this condition.‎

‎* Erste anonyme Ausgabe. Ohne den Dritten Teil. Selten. Ulrich Hegner (* 7. Februar 1759 in Winterthur; ? 3. Januar 1840 ebenda) war ein Schweizer Schriftsteller. Seine Eltern waren der Stadtarzt von Winterthur Heinrich Hegner (1715?1782) und dessen Ehefrau Elisabeth Hegner (1719?1810), eine Tochter des Richters Hans Ulrich Hegner (1685?1773) und der Anna Katrina Künzli. Hegner studierte von 1776 bis 1781 in Strassburg Medizin und promovierte auch dort, privatisierte aber anschliessend in Winterthur, beschäftigte sich mit Literatur und Kunst und betätigte sich schriftstellerisch. 1786 übernahm er das in seiner Familie erbliche Amt des Landschreibers der Grafschaft Kyburg, das er bis 1798 versah. Nach Ausrufung der Helvetischen Republik im April 1798 übernahm er aus republikanischem Pflichtgefühl das Amt eines Kantonsrichters in Zürich, er wohnte hier in Johann Caspar Lavaters Haus. Anschliessend lebte er einige Zeit in Paris, worüber er auch schrieb. Von 1805 bis 1814 war er Stadtrat in Winterthur, von 1814 bis 1829 Kantonsrat in Zürich und 1814/1815 Mitglied der Kantonsregierung. (Quelle Wikipedia)‎

This is a fascinating expedition report which, with its accompanying map, gives a detailed description of two important China waterways that had not previously been accurately surveyed. Excerpt from the introduction: "The Chinese empire that has never been completely and accurately surveyed, although native maps exist purporting to give a delineating of the whole country. While such sources of information are sufficiently approximately correct to show the geography and topography for ordinary purposes, it is only assurveys are made under foreign auspices that we are enabled to get the true location anddescription of details. Such foreign surveys naturally follow the trade routes - that is, the coast-line and inland waters. When the latter have all been correctly plotted we shall have secured the topographical skeleton, to which the less important details can be readily connected..."‎
