First published in the "Recueil des principaux plans des ports et rades de la Mer Mediterranee", 1764, this nice nautical chart is taken from the rare "Plans des ports ed des rades de la Mer Méditerranée.." published in Leghorn by Carlo Tesi, 1858. VII.e Feuille
Jean, a Marseille. Avec Privilege du Roy", Marseille, 1764. Charte of the Adriatic Sea; the map represents the sheet n. VII of the big chart of the Mediterranean published in Marseilles, in twelve sheets, made by Joseph Roux in 1764. Was published in the form of atlas in 12 plates in which is represented the whole basin of the Mediterranean and the Sea of Marmara. The work was dedicated to the Minister of War and Navy Duke of Choiseul. The cut of the charts, the relative scale of reduction taken, the type of symbols used, evidence of a direct derivation from the nautical atlas that Michelot and Bremond had built 50 years earlier.

Cet ouvrage propose une histoire du continent européen de 1850 à la fin du XXe siècle analysée non pas comme une juxtaposition d'histoires nationales mais comme un acteur historique global. ROWELL, Geoffrey bishop in Europe Stevenson, Kenneth (Kenneth W.), Williams, Rowan 1950-. Edited by. Foreword by the Archbishop
Love's Redeeming Work : The Anglican Quest for Holiness. Compiled by Geoffrey Rowell Kenneth Stevenson and Rowan Wiliams. Forewords by the Archbishops of Canterbury & York. OXFORD : 2001. HARDBACK in JACKET.
Oxford London New York: Oxford University Press 2001. First Edition . Hardcover. Near Fine/Near Fine. Large Octavo. FIRST EDITION. OXFORD : 2001. Hardback. Green cloth; gilt lettered spine. In black and colour pictorial dust-jacket. Cream end-papers. A bright tight and clean copy. No owner name or internal markings. NEAR FINE in like jacket; now in a clear protective sleeve. xxix 788 pages. Includes bibliographical references and indexes. SUMMARY: There is a rich vein of writing within Anglican tradition that has helped to form the theology and spirituality of the contemporary church. For many readers much of this material remains unfamiliar and is often difficult to access. Love's Redeeming Work draws together the works of major writers from the sixteenth century to the present day who have contributed to this development. Each selected writer is introduced with a brief biography which gives background information about the author and highlights the relationships that existed with others from the same period. This will enable the reader to set the writings in their proper context enhancing understanding of the material. The selections then follow. In some instances these may be familiar but other examples will introduce fresh ideas for every reader. Each writer's selection is concluded with a list of source texts which can encourage readers to explore in more depth those areas which intrigue and excite them. Love's Redeeming Work traces a path that has enabled Anglicanism in particular and the wider church as well to develop an ever-deepening awareness of the need for a spiritual depth in the Christian life informed by a better knowledge of tradition. In exploring this material it is the compilers' hope that readers will find new riches that will encourage and sustain their own quest for holiness. 8vo. Heavy tome; extra postage needed. Royal Yacht SMS Grille - Prussian Royal Family
Commemorative Morocco Album, Representing an Early Voyage, Quite Possibly the Inaugural Voyage, of Royal Yacht SMS Grille, Containing a Manuscript Dedication to Prince Friedrich Karl of Prussia with the Signatures of 6 Notables Who Were Onboard.
Commemorative morocco album purpose-made for what was most likely the inaugural voyage of SMS Grille, an important Prussian sailing vessel, containing a manuscript dedication to Prince Friedrich Karl of Prussia (1828-1885) with the original signatures of six notables who were onboard. Folio. Red morocco boards, titled and tooled in gilt to front, exquisite blindstamped detail, white satin endpapers. Volume measures approximately 38 x 28,5 x 2 cm. Accompanied by a manuscript letter written in 1874, Folio. 2 pages double-leaf measuring approximately 35 x 21,5 cm. Mild wear to album boards, mainly to extremities and one chip to rear, otherwise in very good, original condition. Von Stettin nach Ystadt den 11. bis 14 Juli 1859. [From Szczecin to Ystadt 11 to 14 July 1859.]: The sea route is revealed with ports of call printed in gilt to the front boards, beginning at Stettin [Szczecin], proceeding to Swinemünde [Swinoujscie], Stralsund, Rügen Island, Ystadt [Sweden], Heringsdorf, and back to Stettin. A dedication inscription reads, "Seiner Königlichen Hoheit dem Prinzen Friedrich Carl von Preussen zur Erinnerung an den 11,12,13,14, Juli 1859" [His Royal Highness the Prince Friedrich Carl of Prussia, in memory of the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th July 1859]. This is followed by the original signatures of six notable men who accompanied him. The signature "von Blumenthal" may be that of Count Leonhard Graf von Blumenthal (1810-1900) who in the 1859 was appointed personal adjutant to Prince Frederick Charles. Another, "Fierbord von Meyerinck" may be Hofmarschall von Meyerinck who frequently accompanied the Prince on official tours. A separate leaf records the names of another 50 guests onboard, all members of the Imperial Navy, and possibly consisting of the crew ("Namentliches Verzeichniss... Grille"). SMS Grille was a ship of the Prussian Navy built after the revolution of 1848-1849 for the Prussian Prince Adalbert (1811-1873), and later served in the Imperial Navy. She was a Royal Yacht, which was available to the King Frederick William IV and the Crown Prince for private purposes during peacetime. The present album quite likely represents the inaugural voyage of SMS Grille, a four-day tour from 11 to 14 July 1859 with Prussian royalty and navy men onboard. Ten years after the voyage memorialized here, in November 1869, SMS Grille would participate in the opening ceremonies of the Suez Canal, again with a Prussian Royal onboard. SMS Grille, with the Crown Prince / future emperor onboard, was the third ship in the column after a French ship with Empress Eugénie and the Austrian SMS Greif with Emperor Franz Joseph I on board.
