Wharton, Anne Hollingsworth
In Chateau Land
Philadelphia and London: J. B. Lippincott Company 1911. Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. Octavo. 183 pages. Hardcover in burgundy cloth. Binding is rubbed and bumped and text block is a bit cocked but is still sound. Top edge of text block is gilt which is scuffed and dulled. Prior owner's stamp mark on front and rear pastedowns. There is an early pencil signature on the front flyleaf "Edwin Markham". We're not sure if this is real or a forgery. We've compared it to online copies and there are similarities and differences. Our guess is that it is not real but it's an interesting addition. Text is toned with occasional foxing. Pages 68/69 have a newspaper clipping between them and the pages have turned darker where the clipping has been. Text is still legible.

J. B. Lippincott Company hardcover
