Contextueel kunstenaar: Pierre Mertens Met het verhaal waarom conceptueel kunstenaar Pierre Mertens (Antwerpen ?°1953) precies geobsedeerd werd door de spanning tussen massa en individu, word je in het vlees geraakt. Het korte leven van zijn dochter Liesje (1978-1989) bracht hem van schilderen tot wereldwijd activisme. Door een reeks medische blunders focust hij zich vanaf de early eighties op het sensibiliseren over de ingewikkelde en onzekere aandoeningen hydrocefalie (zogenaamd waterhoofd) en spina bifida (open rug). Hij reageert tegen een maatschappij die perfectie nastreeft en lijden uitschakelt. Wanneer niet het werken in het atelier, maar in de wereld primair wordt ? en dat kan je met talrijke campagnes en projecten in Afrika en Zuid-Amerika erg letterlijk nemen ? is het niet verwonderlijk dat in situ werk het voornaamste format is voor Pierre Mertens. Hijzelf noemt zich contextueel kunstenaar. Zijn werk is zowel esthetisch als ethisch confronterend. Treffend integreert hij zijn terugkerende gevecht met instituten net in plekken die verwijzen naar het apparatus. Zo blijkt ook in de recente herinterpretatie van de tentoonstelling ?La Justice au risque de l?art? (1999-2000 Justitiegebouw Cambrai Frankrijk) in het Notarishuis in Antwerpen. Het is niet toevallig dat vandaag pas het werk van Pierre Mertens als beeldend kunstenaar, psychotherapeut en ontwikkelingssamenwerker samenkomt en als geheel begrepen wordt. Een beeldend kunstenaar hoeft immers geen specialist meer te zijn, maar kan zeer verscheiden zaken verwezenlijken, diverse engagementen uittesten, op verschillende paden in de maatschappij wandelen, kunst met een boodschap brengen. Multi mag in de 21e eeuw. Dat was ooit anders, en het was dan ook confronterend hoe in de eighties en nineties, na een schitterende start ? in lijn met de opkomende Nieuwe Weelde en met shows in het aankomende SMAK ? de volmondige erkenning van Pierre Mertens? werk uitbleef. Sinds 5 mei 2014 reageert hij ook op wereldnieuws met een tekening per dag, die kan je volgen op de sociale media. Expo: 22/3/2019 - 21/7/2019, K.M.S.K.B. / M.R.B.A.B, Brussels Wim Delvoye, een centraal figuur in de Belgische kunstscène, staat bekend om zijn vaak bijtende humor, zijn voorliefde voor technologische experimenten en zijn ongebreidelde en uiteenlopende productiviteit. Zijn reputatie strekt al lang verder dan de grenzen van zijn vaderland, met recente tentoonstellingen in landen zoals Canada, Azerbeidzjan, Rusland, Luxemburg en zelfs Iran. De tentoonstelling van de Koninklijke Musea voor Schone Kunsten van België, die in nauwe samenwerking met de kunstenaar is ontwikkeld, toont een breed panorama van zijn recente productie en benadrukt het multidisciplinaire aspect van zijn kunst. De werken van Wim Delvoye vloeien voort uit een ontmoeting tussen ambacht en de meest geavanceerde industriële productietechnieken. Verankerd in de hedendaagse wereld, bestudeert Wim Delvoye het verleden en denkt na over de toekomst. Op een geheel nieuwe manier verbindt deze tentoonstelling zijn creaties met meesterwerken uit de collectie oude kunst van de KMSKB. Tinka Pittoors (°1977) is een Belgische beeldende kunstenares die regelmatig tentoonstelt in Vlaanderen, Wallonië, Nederland en Frankrijk. Wie het atelier van Tinka Pittoors betreedt, zal een artificiële tuin ontdekken. Een explosie van vormen en kleuren, een plek waar alles een toekomstig kunstwerk kan zijn. Pittoors onderzoekt in haar sculpturen en objecten de utopie van een kneedbare wereld. De kloof tussen natuur en cultuur dient vaak als uitgangspunt. Elke presentatie is een momentopname op maat van de locatie. Het boek 'Les Voyageurs' verschijnt naar aanleiding van haar gelijknamige tentoonstelling in de tuinen van Château Seneffe. Het kasteel en de tuinen van Seneffe zijn voor het Vlaamse publiek nog een onontdekte parel, maar vormen zowaar het Versailles van de Waalse gemeenschap. Het landgoed strekt zich uit over 22 hectare grond en omvat fonteinen, prieeltjes, ongerepte natuur en dromerige wandelpaden. Voor deze expo creëerde Pittoors een parcours dat reflecteert over de verschillende mogelijkheden van reizen, verplaatsing en onthechting, vertrekken en aankomen, vluchten en queestes. Naast een aantal beelden van deze tentoonstelling toont het boek met zijn 208 pagina's ook een mooi overzicht van vroegere werken van Tinka Pittoors.
