n. p. 1932. Quarter dark-blue leather and pebbled blue cloth photo album housed in a homespun bag emboidered with the owner's initials an anchor two flags and a small shield. Some minor foxing in the album overall in VG condition. 45 unnumbered album leaves with numerous items slipped in and approx. 30 loose items. Hundreds of b/w photos postcards ms letters playbills menus newspaper and magazine clippings original sketches and watercolor paintings invitations receipts church programs Album: 10-1/2" x 14-1/2" <br/><br/>Captain. Frederick Sudell was in the Royal Navy Reserve for over 20 years this scrapbook covers 8 vital years of his service. In addition to being an officer he played hymns every Sunday at church was an avid wood carver and a loving father. The album consists of various sized photographs approx. 5" x 7" to 10" x 8". There is a staggering amount of ephemera relating to his service on various ships visiting places such as Japan India Goa China and various European cities. Images include local scenes maratime subjects life at port monuments friends and family group shots of fellow navy men &c. &c. &c. Of note are the the shots of navy vessals and a panorama of Hong Kong lit up at night. Sudell was invited to some very high profile events in India as well as the UK. Approximately 240 letters on USO and U.S.S Alexander J. Luke letterhead and 80 post cards. Many loose and tipped in ephemeral items as well. Illustrated post cards some photographes in envelopes. Approx: 12-1/2" x 10" <br/><br/>The writings on the first paste-down seen to being a very brief play by play of Robert Given's whereabouts. As the color of the ink seems to change with each "entry": "First leave from boat camp. Left San Diego Sat. 10:30 July 20 - 1946. Got home Monday July 22 1pm - Left July 29 - 1946 at 7:50p.m. - Got to San Diego Aug. 1. In HollywoodJuly 31. Left San Diego Friday Aug. 9 - 1946 at 11 a.m. Arrived in Portland Maine 10:00pm Aug 13. Left Portland Wed. Sept 4 Arrived - Brooklyn Navy Yard Sept. 5. First liberty in N.Y. sept. 5 - 4:30 till Sept. 9 -8am Came home Sept. 29 went back to N.Y. Oct. 5 1946 there Oct 7-19-46 -- Friday Nov. 23 - 1946 went to Staten Island from N.Y." Over all this seems to be a young boy's memories of being in the Navy and things he visited and saw. The letters only read through a few of them seem to be a son writing to his parents - along with a few letters to other family members. Discussing his day to day on the U.S.S. Alexander J. New Haven: n/a late 19th and early 20th century. Hardcover. Fair. Original one of a kind scrapbook not a replica. Approx. 8" x 10" composition book with marbled paper covered boards cloth spine and lined paper. Hinges are cracked and covers loose but attached. Scrapbook is in fair to good condition with browned paper spots from news clippings and glue. On the right front flyleaf is the inscription of "Richard Hooker 233 Church Street New Haven." <br /> <br /> 56 pages of the scrapbook were used for pasting down of cut out photographs of Naval ships illustrations of Navy ships news clippings relating to ships and hand written descriptions and information about ships. The first two pages have a hand written list of "Armored Ships of the United States Navy" and pages 3 and 4 have a list of "Unarmored Ships. Laid inside the rear cover is a 1921 news article from the Springfield Mass. about the Battle of Jutland. There are 3 loose approx. 5" x 8" color lithographs of the "Chicago" "Yorktown" and "Baltimore" laid inside. Most of the illustrations are of American ships with a few foreign vessels mixed in including an original 3" x 4" photograph of the German Flagship "Kaisarin Augusta" pasted down inside.<br /> <br /> Provenance unknown. There was a Lt. Commander Richard S. Hooker who served in the United States Navy during the time frame this album was made. Unknown if this scrapbook was made by the same individual. n/a hardcover

Nel 1926. ormai abolite le Scuole di bordo, si provvide ad unificare l'organizzazione delle Scuole che avevano ormai assunto l'articolazione territoriale su tre poli (La Spezia - località San Bartolomeo le "Scuole Specialisti" -, Pola e Venezia) che conserveranno fino all'armistizio dell'8 settemrbre 1943. Envoi de l'auteur : "A Monsieur Jacques Martin, un homme de la mer et passionné de recherche familiale. Avec le souhait que ces pages - histoire de quelques ancêtres marins - lui donnent aussi l'envie de conter sa propre famille. En toute cordialité, le 14 janvier 1993." Dans son courrier d'accompagnement, l'auteur renvoie le dédicataire aux pages listant capitaines au long cours et corsaires blayais, et exprime son intérêt pour le sujet, objet possible d'une importante recherche historique. Blaye est un cité fortifiée par Vauban qui, surplombant la Gironde en face du Médoc, verrouillait l'accès au port de Bordeaux. Français
