‎xvi, 429 pages. Index. Frontis portrait of author plus eight black and white plates illustrating ships. Seymour was a Royal Navy officer who rose to the rank of Admiral of the Fleet. He saw action in the Crimean War, the Battle of Canton, The Battle of Taku Forts, the Battle of Cixi, and the Boxer Rebellion. This copy belonged to Casper Swinley (1898-1983) of the Royal Navy. His bookplate is affixed to verso of front free endpaper. In addition, his handwritten note affixed to recto of front free endpaper states he carried Admiral Seymour's medals at his funeral on March 7th, 1929. Presentation plate inside front board indicates Captain Swinley donated this copy to a library, thus it bears the markings of a military library. Narrow opening in binding at frontispiece.
