Foreword by Lieutenant General Benjamin O. Davis Jr USAF Ret. Illustrated with a few b&w photos. Bibliography. Glossary Index. Bound in the original silver-stamped blue cloth. From the publisher: "A-Train is the story of one of the black Americans who during World War II graduated from Tuskegee AL Flying School and served as a pilot in the Army Air Corps 99th Pursuit Squadron. Charles W. Dryden presents a fast-paced balanced and personal account of what it was like to prepare for a career traditionally closed to African Americans how he coped with the frustrations and dangers of combat and how he along with many fellow black pilots navigators bombardiers and crewmen emerged with a magnificent war record. Under the command of Colonel Benjamin O. Davis Jr. the Tuskegee airmen fought over North Africa Sicily and Europe escorting American bomber crews who respected their 'no-losses' record. Some were shot down many of them were killed or captured by the enemy and several won medals of valor and honor. But the airmen still faced great barriers of racial prejudice in the armed forces and at home. As a member of that elite group of young pilots who fought for their country overseas while being denied civil liberties at home Dryden presents an eloquent story that will touch each and every reader." From Wikipedia: "Alexander Jefferson November 15 1921 – June 22 2022 was an American Air Force officer famous as one of the Tuskegee Airmen the 332nd Fighter Group. He served in the United States Army Air Forces during World War II. His book Red Tail Captured Red Tail Free: Memoirs of a Tuskegee Airman and POW is a personal memoir of those who served America in World War II and after." Dennis Mills and Burton Lowe were also Tuskegee Airmen / Red Tails.

‎Who Cares Now‎

‎Signed and inscribed by author atop title page. viii, 502pp. Two colour photos. "I have a concern. Was the death of 18,000 Canadian aircrew (in WWII) in vain? Who will carry the torch when we who were there are gone? My position on 'who cares now' may touch a tender spot in some, but my airforce friends did not die in vain. We must be reminded of the horrors of a major war; there is a better way." - from back cover. Light wear. A quality copy. Book‎

‎A Determined Heart The Story of a World War II Pilot and POW‎

‎San Marcos California: World War II Experience 2015. BRAND NEW in PERFECT CONDITION. Flat spine. NO chips. NO tears. NO creases. NO rubbing. NO fading. Sharp corners. Bright shiny clean square and tight. NO owner's name or bookplate. NOT a remainder. Pages are fresh crisp clean and unmarked -- obviously never read. Bound in the original full color pictorial wraps. Well illustrated with vintage WW2 photos and documents including a photo on page 154 of the 388th crew which subsequenty has been included in the American Air Museum in Britain collection. From the rear cover: "'You have to come home darling you just have to' Joan Klinke pleaded with her Army Air Corps husband in a diary entry dated October 13 1944. She began the journal on the day a telegram arrived from the War Department. It informed her that Second Lieutenant Raymond Bernard Klinke was Missing in Action over the skies above Germany. During World War II the United States Army inducted over eight million Americans into its ranks. The military turned each of those men into a soldier. Ray Klinke a clerk before the war became one of those transformations a dramatic one popularly known as a 'flyboy.' Unlike most other personal histories from World War II the story of his training service and months as a prisoner of war can be chronicled in detail because Ray and Joan saved their letters and diaries. What they went through is representative of what other couples experienced during the war. As such Ray and Joan's story is the story of their era.". 1st ed No additional printings listed. Softcover. New. 5 v 329pp. Great Packaging Fast Shipping. World War II Experience Paperback‎
