Riyadh: Tihama 1981. Original button-fastened dark red leatherette folio presentation box 415 x 260 mm gilded metal roundel with relief of the hajj terminal mounted to front panel green velvet lining. Containing 3 pamphlets in pictorial wrappers 2 wire-stitched and a large 80 mm diameter commemorative coin engraved with a relief portrait of King Abdulaziz as issued. Pamphlets all with text in Arabic and English and illustrated throughout from colour photographs. Leatherette very slightly lifting in isolated sections along edges on rear panel with a few faint creases one pamphlet "Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ministry of Defence and Aviation International Airports Projects" lightly rubbed at extremities coin with one very faint scratch to verso. Overall very good. King Abdulaziz International Airport Jeddah was opened in 1981 and was the first airport in the world to contain a hajj terminal specifically for Muslims making the pilgrimage to Mecca. It was designed by the noted Bangladeshi-American engineer Fazlur Rahman Khan and was awarded the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 1983 chiefly for its innovative tent-like roofing system. One pamphlet titled "King Abdulaziz International Airport" in wrappers printed with symbols for amenities comprises sections titled "Asset to the Kingdom" "A City Within a City" "Gateway to Mecca" and "World's Newest Airport". Another "King Abdulaziz International Airport - Jeddah" in wrappers illustrated with photographs of Saudi royals provides a more strictly factual overview of the airport and its facilities. The third pamphlet "Kingdom of Saudi Arabia Ministry of Defence and Aviation International Airports Projects" shows the luxury interiors and art collections of the airport's VIP areas. The text is illustrated with four inserts of black-and-white pages of eight pages each. Eight pages of map and one double page map. Navy blue coloured cloth boards with gilt titles to the backstrip. Rubbing to the book edges and bumping and rubbing to the book corners. A few marks to the book panels. Browning and foxing to the text block edges. Browning and faint foxing to the endpapers and light age toning and the occasional foxing spot to the internal text. Original bookseller's sticker to the lower right-hand corner of the front paste-down and gift inscription to the top left-hand corner of the free front end paper. Plain text dustwrapper with blue background with black and white titles to the front panel and backstrip. Rubbing and chipping to the dustwrapper corners and top backstrip edge. Small tears to the top dustwrapper edge with creasing. There is a small piece missing from the lower edge of the front dustwrapper panel and their is a piece missing from the lower left-hand corner of the backstrip edge measuring 0.75 "-- wide and 1.5 " long. Fading to the backstrip and Browning to the rear dustwrapper panel. Heavy rubbing and marking to the fold over creases and general where to the dustwrapper.
