The aircraft undoubtedly marked the end of an era of the RAF's four-piston-engined 'heavies' although it remained in service for nearly 30 years after it was first classified as obsolete. Seattle 1951. Fine. A vernacular photograph of Boeing Company founder William E. Boeing mixing a pitcher of martinis at Seattle's "487" club. Print measures 7 7/8" x 5 7/8" while the image measures 7" x 5". Photo shows bespectacled William E. Boeing mixing a pitcher of cocktails wearing a wired device in his ear possibly a primitive hearing aid or an early transistor radio speaker. Two ice-filled glasses await his concoction. Handwritten note on verso reads "W. E. Boeing at '487' / Oct. '51" along with a stamped "012." The "487" in Seattle's Olympic Hotel was founded by William E. Boeing Sr. and remains the city's most exclusive gentlemen's club purportedly capping membership at 10. ln 1917 William E. Boeing founded the The Boeing Airplane Company. With the importance of aircraft underscored during WWI Boeing recognized peacetime potential in "the development of a commercial flying boat" per Boeing archives. Under his guidance a small company of less than 20 employees grew into a huge corporation of related industries. In the 1930s frustrated by successful antitrust efforts that dissolved United Aircraft and Transport a holding company that controlled Boeing and related businesses including United Air Lines W. E. Boeing sold his interests in the Boeing Airplane Co. He continued to advise the company the he founded. He passed away in 1956.

Collection includes a broad variety of Alaska Airlines material including pinbacks luggage tags flight schedules photographs patches for employee uniforms and company-issued periodicals. Includes a complete set of 25 company-issued trading cards and a couple duplicates issued in 1997 each featuring a specific aircraft in the airlines' history complemented by historical details of their deployment in the firm's fleet. A few photos are documented on verso: "Cook Inlet May 1955/Plane coming in 741 Gray Ghost/Tom Wordley - Pilot". Embroidered company patches include those for Alaska Airlines 5 and Alaska Coastal Airlines 2 a competitor acquired in 1968. In sum 150 distinct items the card collection counted as a single item dating from 1950s- 1990s. Condition ranges from Good to Fine with Very Good applying to most items. Archive is housed in sleeves in three matching blue leatherbound binders. Starting with a used Stinson SM-8A Linious McGee founded McGee Airways in 1932 flying a route between Anchorage and Bristol Bay. Over the span of decades the airlines consolidated Alaska's disparate puddle-jumpers and bush-route operators establishing the name "Alaska Airlines" in the 1940s.
