‎Byzantine architectural sculpture in Çanakkale. Research into the Early Christian and Byzantine periods on the valleys that reached the Hellespont I.‎

‎New English Paperback. 4to. (26 x 22 cm). In English. 660 p., ills. Byzantine architectural sculpture in Çanakkale. Research into the Early Christian and Byzantine periods on the valleys that reached the Hellespont I. When it is asked "What was the importance of the Hellespont in the Byzantine period?". its geographical location stands out. Written data indicate that this location maintained its importance throughout the Byzantine period. According to these data, preliminary surveys were carried out in the region between 1999 and 2002. The data we obtained from these studies showed that both the surveys and the archaeological data particularly on the upper and middle sections of the strait were limited. This creates a serious problem in understanding the relationships between the Black Sea and the Mediterranean at the long distance and between the Marmara Sea and the Aegean Sea at the short distance. To contribute to the settlement of this problem, we conduct archaeological surveys in order to determine the Byzantine settlements on the valleys that reached the Hellespont and to understand the settlement patterns.‎

In this period, notably, he coordinated the transfer of the artifacts that appeared in various museums all over the country. An illustrated and important guide to this one of the important cities for Christianity with a detailed Turkish Ephesus plan. Aziz Ogan's interest in fine arts and archaeology had formed at a young age thanks to the painter and the founder of the museology and archaeology in the Ottoman Empire, Osman Hamdi Bey, a close friend of Ogan's father and the owner of the neighboring vineyards in Gebze. In 1910, Aziz Ogan graduated from Sanayi-i Nefise Mektebi [i.e. The School of Fine Arts], a school he enrolled in as a result of his keen interest. While Ogan was still a student in 1907, he was appointed as a museum official to the Imperial Museum. Ogan was appointed as the inspector of the Izmir Museum of Antiquities in 1914 but with the beginning of World War I and the declaration of the military mobilization, he was drafted to the officer cadet school. After finishing his education, he served both at the Gallipoli Front and the Caucasus Front. In 1917, he was appointed by Cemal Pasha as the deputy consultant to the Museum of Antiquities established in Damascus at the behest of the Fourth Army, and as the headmaster of Damascus technical school which was under the control of the Fourth Army. At the time, the German archaeologist Dr. Theodor Wiegand was the head of the archaeological organization. They had established a deep and intimate friendship in a very short period. en World War I had ended, Izmir was under occupation. Under these conditions, Aziz Ogan couldn't start properly his duties as the inspector of the Izmir Museum of Antiquities until 1922. In 1926 his inspection field was extended to Izmir and the neighboring territory. Aziz Ogan, who played a pivotal role in the preservation of ancient artifacts and in the development of museums, was a member of institutions such as the Turkish Historical Society, the Austrian, Czechoslovakian, Finnish, and German Archaeological Institutes, the Mainz Academy of Sciences and Literature and the Istanbul Institute. ‎Typescript document signed 'Maarif Vekili B. Nafiz' about Mahmud Ragip Kösemihal and Adnan Saygun's Anatolian travels for the compilation of Turkish music, sent to 'Musiki Muallim Mektebi'.‎

‎Very Good Turkish Original typescript (TLS) and an important historical document signed by the Minister of Education. 25x19 cm. In Turkish (Latin letters). 1 p. Sent to "Musiki Muallim Mektebi" [i.e. The school of music teachers]. A document stating that the relevant travel planned in advance and submitted to the Ministry of National Education is deemed appropriate, but stating that the relevant ministry cannot provide financial assistance. Ahmet Adnan Saygun was a Turkish composer, musicologist, and writer on music. One of a group of composers known as the Turkish Five who pioneered western classical music in Turkey, his works show a mastery of Western musical practice, while also incorporating traditional Turkish folk songs and culture. When alluding to folk elements he tends to spotlight one note of the scale and weave a melody around it, based on a Turkish mode. His extensive output includes five symphonies, five operas, two piano concertos, concertos for violin, viola, and cello, and a wide range of chamber and choral works. The Times called him "the grand old man of Turkish music, who was to his country what Jean Sibelius is to Finland, what Manuel de Falla is to Spain, and what Béla Bartók is to Hungary". Following the operas, he was neglected in Ankara State Conservatory by its founder Paul Hindemith. He moved to Istanbul as part of the theory faculty at the Istanbul Municipal Conservatory. In 1936 Béla Bartók visited Turkey to research the native folk music. Saygun accompanied Bartók on his travels around the country, collecting and transcribing folk songs all through the Anatolia and Osmaniye (a region of Adana), Turkey. Saygun gained immense knowledge of Bartók's style of writing during this trip and learned a great deal about string quartets: they became great friends. In 1939 he was invited back to Ankara to further promote Western musical activities and practices. A year later he formed his own organization, Ses ve Tel Birligi, which showcased recitals and concerts throughout the country, further developing public knowledge of Western classical music. Gazimihal was a Turkish musicologist, researcher, historian, and writer. He, who died in 1961, was also the uncle of famous pianist Idil Biret.‎

‎Istanbul, will You Still Love Me tomorrow‎

‎Paris, Editions Loco, 2024, 22 x 28, 120 pages sous demi-toile éditeur avec plats illustrés. Photographies noir & blanc de Jehsong Baak. Texte de Sébastien de Courtois. BILINGUE.
