‎Very Good Turkish Paperback. Pbo. Roy. 8vo. (24 x 17 cm). In Turkish. [xxiii], 175, [1] p., 1 folding map. Osmanli Imparatorlugunda derbend teskilâti. First Edition. The derbent organization which was established in order to protect caravans and trade-roads and developed from the 'Tutkavul' system in Ilhanlis, is one of the important roads of settlement in the Ottoman State. The derbent facilities, surrounded by walls, are built around intersections of the main roads and in places with central importance; therefore, the inhabitants live in village recorded as the ones responsible for various services are exempted from some or all taxes. Derbents are not only important facilities they also provide security for the region and trade-route but they played a role in enabling settlement in isolated places to Although they were significant in terms of their functions, their organization begins to get out of order in 17th century, the residents have to leave their houses since they are subjected to pressure of bandits. In 18th century the state tried to put this malfunction in order. In spite of all the measures taken the derbents. In couldn't be brought back to its old form and so neglected. The reform movements that began with the administrative reforms "Tanzimat" enable derbent organizations to be removed and in modern sense security organization is founded; in this framework inns and derbents in some certain points are transformed into gendarme post.‎

‎Transcending diaspora: Studies on Sabbateanism and diaspora.‎

‎New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In English. 260 p. Transcending diaspora: Studies on Sabbateanism and diaspora. This volume contains nine separate yet interconnected articles on the Ottoman-Jewish messianic Sabbatean movement and the Dönmes in early modern and modern times. The articles are linked by three common issues: 1- How did the Dönmes survive their enigmatic identity among the Jews, Christians and Muslims throughout the centuries; 2- How did the outside world perceive and treat them? And 3-How did the dialectical relationship between Dönme and the Others transform Dönme identity over time? At the heart of the Dönme self-preservation over centuries stands a crucial and yet idiosyncratic belief with regards to the Diaspora and the Holy/Promised Land. They radically re-conceptualized the notion of the Holy Land, and transcended the painful idea of being away from the ¿home.¿ According to this belief, any land ¿say Salonica, Istanbul or Izmir- on which the Dönme steps transforms its character and turns into the Holy Land. With this new reinterpretation, the new Holy Land could be¿and was¿considered a new ontological abode. It is not clear whether this idea was conceived during the time of Sabbatai Sevi, but it is certain that it has been utilized by later Dönme generations in order to engender genuine survival mechanisms and mental comfort in the lands in which they lived.‎

‎Istanbul. Passione, gioia, furore-Istanbul. Passion, joy, fury.

‎Bargaining between Islam and Kemalism: An investigation of official Islam through Friday sermons.‎

‎New English Paperback. Demy 8vo. (21 x 14 cm). In English. 206 p. Bargaining between Islam and Kemalism: An investigation of official Islam through Friday sermons. "The main objective of this book is to explore the Turkish state's attempt to regulate Islam through an analysis of the regulation of Friday sermons in Turkey. Drawing on the records of disciplinary measures implemented by the Presidency of Religious Affairs (PRA) and in-depth interviews conducted with imams in Turkey, the thesis argues that the Republic developed strategies to realize a state centralization of religion. This is corroborated by the high compliance rate of imams with the content of the sermons prepared by the PRA in the absence of serious inspection mechanisms until relatively recently. The complians of imams to the sermons delivered by the state implies that a distinct (nation-)statist disposition has been approved by the imams themselves as well, and hence that he republic has managed to create the 'republican' imams.".‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original sheet music. Folio. (35 x 25 cm). In Ottoman script. [4] p., scores. [SHEET MUSIC] Muhayyer Remel. Darü'l-Elhan Külliyati No. 7 [The House of Melodies Collected Works No. 7]. [With original personal stamp of Samli Iskender -Kudmanizâde-]. Darülelhan (The House of Melodies) is not a real publishinghouse but a music school established at 10 January 1917, in Istanbul. The principle aim in the establishment of this school was to follow a scientific way in the education and teaching of musical arts, and introduce the old pieces by printing them. Some courses on Turkish and Western music should be given in a course of four years. This school closed in the days of Independence War and reopened by the attempts of Haydar Beg the mayor of Istanbul in 1923. It was published in Iraq, probably Qirkuk (The phone number of the publishing house is written on the cover). ‎CEVAT RIFAT ATILHAN, (Turkish career officer and antisemitic writer, who was one of the initiators of the 1934 Thrace pogroms), (1892-1967).‎

‎Autograph letter signed 'Cevad' on a paper with letterhead 'Cevat Rifat Atilhan: The Owner at The Islamic United Nations Newspaper and writer of Aykurt Printinghouse'.‎

‎Very Good Turkish, Ottoman (1500-1928) Original autograph letter signed by Cevat Rifat Atilhan sent to an unnamed recipient. 30x23 cm. In Ottoman script. 15 lines. Full with letterheads. Dated 1961/8/26 with Arabic numbers. A good paper with only an 'extra strong' watermark. It's a feverish letter mentioning the ideas of the readers of Italian and the Turkish nation to an unnamed recipient. Very interesting content. Atilhan was a Turkish career officer and antisemitic writer, who was one of the initiators of the 1934 Thrace pogroms. He was born in 1892 in Vefa, Constantinople. His father Rifat Pasha was the Governor of Damascus. The first years of his childhood passed in Damascus. Then he came to Constantinople and went to Fatih Iptidaisi (primary school). After graduating from primary school, he started to Kuleli Military High School, preferring to military service. In his first days in the lieutenant years, he took part in the Albanian campaign. He was taken prisoner by the Bulgarians in the siege of Edirne. The bondage lasted two years. At the beginning of World War I, he was ordered by Cemal Pasha from Mersin. He came forward with his heroism in the Sinai and Palestinian fronts. Upon the conclusion of the First World War, Cemal Pasha from Mersin came to Konya. The establishment of the National Front had great benefits. He met with Sultan Mehmed VI as the first national representative. When Sultan Mehmed VI left his post, Damat Ferid Pasha had Atilhan arrested because of a conspiracy. He was imprisoned in the Bekir Aga Bölgesi. During the Turkish War of Independence, he was appointed as the commander of Zonguldak-Bartin and Havalisi Fronts. It prevented the spread of the French Army in this region. Upon the victory of the War of Independence, he left the army and went into writing. Of his anti-semitic book "Suzy Liberman, Jewish Spy", in 1935 the Turkish Army gave the order to buy 40000 copies and distributed them amongst the officers. In 1942, he was arrested by the government of the time on the grounds that the coup was being prepared. He was incarcerated for 11 months. In 1952, he was arrested again in Malatya as responsible for the assassination attempt of Ahmet Emin Yalman. He was detained for 11 months and 15 days. He wrote 74 works and thousands of articles. He was influenced by antisemitic politicians like Serif Yaçagaz and Ali Galip Yenen. Because of his antisemitic writings, he was described as the 'Hitler of the Middle East'. In August 1964 he was invited to congress of Islamic State in Somalia. He was elected as the Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Congress. This post was his last major mission.
