ENGIN YENAL.
One hundred and one buildings and sites, Türkiye.
New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. 4to. (32 x 24 cm). In English. 504 p., ills. One hundred and one buildings and sites, Türkiye. This treatise on the built environment and consequentially man-made structures in Anatolia starts from Prehistory and focuses on the dimensions of space and time in particular. Contemporary approaches to cultural historiography not only aim to highlight the continuity of the dimensions of Space and Time but also to effectively examine and explain the pursuit of the 'environmental-formal-institutional-semiotic and evolutionary.' This comparative study covers historic periods and epochs in Anatolia, the major determinant space, whose history is now proven by archaeological findings to start around 500,000 BC. The built environment in Anatolia has a history of nearly twelve thousand years; the contextual consistency methodology followed here exerts buildings to examine the continuous stages of this cultural history in detail. Limiting the extent to 101 buildings has facilitated focusing on the comparison of their functional and formal features in a historical context; these landmarks only become iconic and gain meaning in a mutual relationship with their immediate environment. This book is a compulsive experimental attempt in contemporary cultural historiography with the classifications and chronological order that have enabled the comparisonof functional and stylistic evolution.

The rose: Flower of love, flower of art, flower of eternity.
New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. 4to. (32 x 22 cm). In English. 375 p., color and b/w ills. "The rose is known and loved by the entire world. Smelled by sovereigns, this flower is the symbol of love, of belief and of beauty. It is the richest inspiration for all arts, the sultan of gardens and poetry and the eternal yearning of the nightingale. From the beginning of civilization the rose has adorned the lives of man. For thousands of years countless cultures have turned to the rose as a way of expression, they have held on to it, interpreted it, and enjoyed its beauty while enduring its thorns. Süleyman the Magnificent wrote poetry using the pseudonym Muhibbî and understanding the value of this special flower he placed it on the emerald throne of the meadow. 'The rose sits on the emerald throne and becomes a sultan It gathers all the sweet basil to commence the council.' Ahmet Hamdi Tanpinar said of the rose, "The dream of eternity fitted into a moment." This book is written to provide a stroll into the imaginary and actual rose garden of humanity and enable the gathering of a most colourful bunch. Those who turn the pages will relish the rosy world of nature and roses, the history of the rose, the name of the rose and the smell and taste of roses; the rose in art and rosy pictures, rosy tiles and rosy fabrics, rosy carpets, rosy stones and rosy woods, rosy jewellery and rosy glass, the rose in poetry and the rose in music, wearing the rose and the rose gardens of our lives. With this book the writer of the TULIP book, Gül Irepoglu has taken a new look at the ROSE and embraced it.".

Anadolu topraklarinda mozaik.
New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. In special commercial box. 4to. (33 x 33 cm). In Turkish. 511 p., color ills. The book titles 'Mosaics of Anatolia' is the variegated great adventure of the square that has existed on earth for thousand of years. At the same time, when each mosaic square is aligned next to each other they are like the sentences created by the words in a literary text: as an epic of the concept of depiction inspired by the myths of past civilisations. In this great adventure, the art of mosaics sometimes focused on the legends told by people, sometimes on daily life and sometimes on holy texts by tracking the past of nature at all times. A great journey in the infinity of colourful cubes. Therefore, the subjects of our book are the squares of both reknowned and unknown cultures who have settled in and emigrated from Anatolian lands. Like the diary of a traveler, we have withessed and catalogued the existence of the art of mosaics in every part of Anatolia. Each and every one of them is a meaningful visual feast telling the stories of settling and emigrating civilisations. ISBN: 9786055495107. ARCHEOLOGY Anatolian civilizations History of art Mosaic.

New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. 4to. (30 x 24 cm). In English. 343 p., color and b/w ills. The Sultan's procession: The Swedish embassy to Sultan Mehmed IV in 1657-1658 and the Rålamb paintings. In 1657, King Charles X Gustaf of Sweden sent Claes Ralamb as an envoy to Sultan Mehmed IV's court. While he was there, Ralamb commissioned 20 large paintings in oil on canvas, depicting an imperial procession through Istanbul in September 1657, providing a revealing insight into the court of Sultan Mehmed IV in Ottoman Turkey. For the first time, Ralamb's paintings are published here in "The Sultan's Procession". This beautifully illustrated book - containing over 150 colour illustrations - comprehensively covers the full history of the paintings, including a technical analysis from the conservation of one of the paintings. The book also provides a full history of Claes Ralamb and his mission, including the political background of the Swedish embassy, Ralamb's biography and English translations of primary sources in Swedish and Turkish archives. Among the illustrations are over 100 watercolours of people in the Ottoman society from the costume album acquired by Ralamb in Istanbul. These unique Ralamb paintings provide a rare window into life at the Ottoman court in the 17th century.

Commagene: The land of gods between the Taurus and the Euphrates. An archaeological guide.
New English Paperback. Pbo. Demy 8vo. (22 x 14 cm). In English. 372 p. Color and b/w ills. "The country of ancient Commagene spreads between the Taurus Mountains and the Euphrates in South-Eastern Turkey. Located at the eastern fringe of the Mediterranean world Commagene has been a border region for many centuries. Rooted in Near Eastern traditions the country was exposed to frequently changing religious systems and political powers. Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Arabs, Armenians, Seljuks, Crusaders, Mamluks, and Ottomans have left their mark on the fertile valleys and the barren hills. There are famous and much frequented places like the grave tumulus of the Hellenistic king Antiochos I on the Nemrut Dag, which is inscribed in the UNESCO world heritage list, or the roman city of Zeugma with its splendid mosaics. However, a considerably larger number of attractive monuments and sites - ranging from Hittite reliefs to impressive medieval castles - are to be explored in Commagene. This richly illustrated book provides a broad overview of the most important sites and their historical background. It aims at travellers in the region as well as readers interested in the history and archaeology of ancient Turkey.".

Pergamon: A Hellenistic capital in Anatolia.= Pergamon: Anadolu'da Hellenistik bir baskent.
New English Paperback. Pbo. 4to. (33 x 23 cm). In English and Turkish. 552 p., color and b/w ills. Since the establishment of the Attalid dynasty in the 3rd century bc the ancient city of Pergamon had been the capital and royal residence of the Attalid kingdom as well as a more or less independent Hellenistic polis with all its civic institutions. Consequently this book concentrates above all on Pergamon as a city and a royal capital, on its inhabitants and its sacred spaces, which feature so prominently in the urban fabric and include the Sanctuary of Athena, the Great Altar, the Asklepieion and the Red Hall (or Red Basilica). Although the chronological focus lies on the Hellenistic epoch, the articles in this volume cover a span from prehistory to the Byzantine period, as is essential if one is to understand the prerequisites for the city's development within its landscape, and also to appreciate how the legacy of Hellenism was handed down, changed, enriched and also destroyed in subsequent periods.

Mosaics of Antioch.
New English Original bdg. HC. Oblong large 8vo. (23 x 23 cm). In English. 72 p., 50 color plates. "The book includes the finest of the Antioch mosaic pavements displayed in the Hatay Archaeological Museum in Antakya, Turkey. The pavements were brought to light in and around Antioch on the Orontes (Antakya), Seleucia Pieria (Çevlik) and Daphne (Defne) in 1932-37. The excavations have shown that in the whole area there was not a single better-class house without mosaic pavements decorating its entrance, halls, dining rooms, corridors and sometimes the bottoms of its pools. In addition to pavements which came from structures built in different periods, mosaics which came from the different levels of the same buildings have enabled scholars to construct a gradual and unbroken development of classical Roman mosaics covering its iconographic and stylistic changes from the first century of the Common Era to the beginning of the sixth.".

Mosaics in Istanbul.
New New English Original bdg. Dust wrapper. 4to. (32 x 24,5 cm). In English. 175 p., color ills. "The book brings together the extant mosaics of the Great Palace (Büyük Saray Mosaic Museum), Hagia Sophia (Ayasofya Museum), the Virgin Pammakaristos (Fethiye Museum), St. Saviour in Chora (Kariye Museum) and Istanbul Archaeological Museums. Except for the few panels brought from elsewhere and now kept in the Istanbul Archaeological Museums, all of the mosaics in this book were made in Istanbul, known then as Constantinople. Chronologically, the earliest of these mosaics is from the late Roman period and the latest from the early fourteenth century. Even if they are far from giving the development of the art of mosaic in the capital these pavements reflect the importance that was afforded to this art. In this volume they are grouped under the name of the monument to which they belong. Constantinople suffered so many natural disasters and had to be rebuilt so many times that the mosaics which decorated the buildings of the late Roman/early Byzantine period, lie under modern buildings in the debris of fires and earthquakes. Unless some of these are encountered accidentally during construction work and salvaged, there is almost no hope of bringing them to light.".
