La Vie Parisienne - Samedi 22 Aout 1925. Art Deco/Nouveau. Illustrations by Cheri Herouard Georges Leonnec Henry Fournier Henri Avelot Maurice Milliere Georges Pavis and others uncredited
Paris: La Vie Parisienne 1925. First Edition . Illustrated Wraps. Near Fine. 13.75" x 10.5. Cheri Herouard Georges Leonnec Henry Fournier Henri Avelot Maurice Milliere Georges Pavis. Paris: La Vie Parisienne 1925. The August 22 1925 Issue 63e annee No 34. Illustrations by Cheri Herouard Georges Leonnec Henry Fournier Henri Avelot Maurice Milliere Georges Pavis others uncredited. Text in French. Illustrated wraps folio 13.75" x 10.5" 18 pp. Near Fine; some light soil at covers and that's about it. An extraordinarily high grade example; not far from As New after all this time. See scans. Exceptional condition for this thin-but-large fragile weekly. Glossy covers; first and last few internal pages are on newsprint else all glossy. Rather spectacular full-page color illustrations in every issue in fact by the coterie of guys who knew how to do what you see here. In the case of this issue Cheri Herouard Georges Leonnec Henry Fournier Henri Avelot Maurice Milliere Georges Pavis are credited but some of the other very credit-worthy art is uncredited. See scans. Cute humor from the same mood as mutoscope cards or perhaps a bit only a bit more refined. Gentle titillation. Even the occasional partial nudity is rather tasteful and soft though humorously flirtatious. All of the full page efforts are eminently frame-able and at this time of a sensibility midway-evolved between nouveau and deco as is much of the uncredited b&w illustration. An original - and of course first and only edition - of the 8/22/1925 issue of this memorable and long-lived French weekly offering of very soft very artful light erotica. The captioned illustrations by the eminent "dessins" luminaries named above and others in their clan are what really "make" this issue as was generally the case through the era but cartoons serial fiction and around-town pieces nicely compliment those. Gorgeous oversized large color illustrations are what you collect these for. l-LNG1

La Vie Parisienne paperback

Some cover soiling wrinkling wear and very small scale chips; contents sharp bright about Very Good overall; nice condition for this thin-but-large fragile weekly. Glossy covers; first and last few internal pages are on newsprint else all glossy. Rather spectacular full-page color illustrations in every issue in fact by the coterie of guys who knew how to do what you see here. In the case of this issue Cheri Herouard; Maurice Milliere; Georges Pavis; Pierre Lissac; Armand Vallee are credited for the big stuff but some of the other very credit-worthy art is uncredited. See scans. Cute humor from the same mood as mutoscope cards or perhaps a bit only a bit more refined yields the cover art caption: "Impertinence de Mi-Careme / Un Pied de Nez" for which I do not know the colloquial translation for an artful depiction of a young lass about to don a mask; on the back cover a king welcomes a brand spanking new young queen who flirts with the old guy for her own reasons as he gushes admiration of her. Understandably. Similar captioning throughout. Gentle titillation. Even the occasional partial nudity is rather tasteful and soft though humorously flirtatious. All of the full page efforts are eminently frame-able and at this time of a sensibility midway-evolved between nouveau and deco as is much of the uncredited b&w illustration. (Erotic poetry) Dekobra, Maurice (Ernest-Maurice Tessier)
Extraits des Strophes Libertines du Chevalier Naja handwritten cover page plus ten typed poems with corrections in hand by Dekobra
Paris 1919. Paperback. Very Good. Manuscript / typescript of 10 erotic poems with cover sheet in pencil giving the title and with the note that these would appear in 1919 in a deluxe edition and in very limited number. Indeed they were published 20 poems in total with the same title very limited 84 copies with erotic woodcuts by Bernard Cochet under his pseudonym Gece. This was in the estate of Edmond Roze d. 1943 a theatrical impresario in Paris who was good friends with Dekobra. These are all erotic and libertine poems celebrating women's buttocks and various erotic pleasures according to one critic evoking the pleasures of both opulent Messaline-type figures the promiscuous third wife of Emperor Claudius and 'vicious fourteen year olds.' Age toning light wear to cover sheet most corrections are insertions of commas and the like. Now fairly unknown Dekobra in his day was known as an edgy and interesting writer and was widely read and admired. paperback

GRIEGER SCOTT. Grieger Scott & Maurice Tuchman. SCOTT GRIEGER. Los Angeles: Los Angeles County Museum of Art 1971. First Edition. 12mo. Illustrated Wrappers. Artist Monograph. Near Fine. One continuous 7 ½ x 11 ½" cardstock sheet printed offset recto and verso folded neatly in half to make 4pp 1 b&w illustration. With an exhibition checklist. This is the slender four page brochure published in conjunction with a 1971 Los Angeles County Museum of Art Ahmanson Gallery exhibition of five recent "combination" works by Scott Grieger. Expanding on his earlier "Impersonations" series the Los Angeles-based artist takes aim here at prevailing luminaries and tropes of Pop Conceptual and Minimal Art with five works that marry the iconic imagery of Frank Stella with Donald Judd Robert Morris with Larry Poons Morris Louis with Sol LeWitt Barnett Newman with Frank Stella and Jasper Johns with Donald Judd to amusing effect. A brand new pristine example of this exceedingly uncommon ephemeral item - only two copies are currently cited in OCLC WorldCat - that was the only printed documentation of the event.
