A interesting work on politics religion and education. Dealing with the separation of church and state the lectures are written and were delivered by prominent Christian Socialist and theologian Frederick Denison Maurice. In a prize binding with crest to the front board. In decorative calf binding with gilt detailing. Externally smart there is some minor wear to the boards joints backstrip and extremities. The hinge is also somewhat strained. Internally firmly bound. Pages are largely bright and clean throughout aside from some light markings and spotting particularly to endpages. Additional ownership signature of "James W. Cox Jr." to half title.<br /> <br /> Boards show some light scuffing around edges. A single white speck to spine. Binding is sound. Half title shows remnants of tape repair. Marginalia and underlining in pen found intermittently throughout the text though whether these are in Duncan-Jones' hand we are unsure.
