This book tells of stirring political activities in the early 30s in the state of New South Wales culminating on May 13 1932 in the dismissal of Mr J. T. Although a number of legal treatises on the subject have been published this is the first dispassionate account of what it was like to be living near the centre of activities at that very trying time. As the author's father was Secretary to the Governor she was very close to government house at the time but her account encompasses much more than merely a "view from Government House". This is a complete issue, seldom found in such good and original condition. This is a fascinating expedition report on the Malay Archipelago, specifically the Cocos or Keeling Islands, accompanied by a visually appealing and valuable fold out colour map for illustration. Charles Darwin formulated a theory of the origin of coral reefs, This report mentions Darwin's theories and observations frequently, and is an excellent example of how early and how widely Darwin's work and theories were accepted by all his peers regardless of the apparent controversy he stirred up.

Robust professional packaging and tracking provided for all parcels. xii 474 2 16pp adverts. Author was employed by G.F. Angas as his agent and attorney in South Australia to replace Charles Flaxman. His main task on arrival was to take possession of the Barossa estate for Angas and he helped layout the town of Angaston. He returned home in 1844 but came back to South Australia in 1846 to take up sheep farming. In 1952 he and E.W. Andrews bought the South Australian Register and he Forster edited the Register and the Adelaide Observer until 1864. He was a member of the Legislative Council in the late 1850's and was prominent in the establishment of the Torrens Real Property Act Torrens Title that we refer to today . 1st Edition. Hardback. Original blind-stamped dark green cloth slightly rubbed and bumped at the extremities and slightly worn at the head of the front hinge; map very slightly chipped on the two bottom corners when folded with two short tears expertly repaired; a very good copy internally a fine uncut copy. The author was 'late Member of the Legislative Council at Adelaide' from 1855 to 1864; he was also George Fife Angas's agent in SA from 1841 to 1844. This copy comes from the collection of the South Australian historian and bibliographer Thomas Gill with his signature on the flyleaf and the first contents page along with his attractive ownership stamp based on the letter G. His collection was bequeathed to the Royal Geographical Society of South Australia which later disposed of duplicates; this copy has the cancelled RGSSA stamp on the title page and the John Goodchild-designed Gill bequest bookplate on the front pastedown.
