Black and white photography and tables illustrate the text. The front end paper is illustrated with a map of the Northern Territory. Red coloured boards with black edging and back titles to the front panel and backstrip. The corners are bumped and slightly rubbed and there is bumping to the head of the spine. There is heavy foxing to the endpapers which becomes progressively less until there is none at page 1 the foxing recommences on page 136 to the end of the book and there is foxing on the paper edges. The front hinge has cracked and gift inscription on front paste down. Illustrated dustwrapper showing map of Australia with the Northern Territory highlighted. Red and grey background with red black and white titles on the front panel and black titles to the backstrip. Dustwrapper is in particularly poor condition the front fold over has come away from the rest of the dustwrapper. There is a piece missing measuring 4" x 1"which includes the top of the spine both edges of the dustwrapper are chipped and there are numerous small tears on the back panel. The dustwrapper is also faded particularly on the spine and rubbed particularly on the back panel. Dustwrapper is protected by library sleeving. This book was one pastorlists attempt in 1938 to sing praises of the Northern Territory and how other young pastoralists could make a good living in the then untamed wilderness. Serving at Bendigo and Richmond Victoria during 1858-76 then at Stowe Congregational Church Adelaide until 1890. He was member of the University of Adelaide Council in 1878-87 and vice-chancellor from July 1883 to December 1887. In 1892 he was elected chairman of the Australasian Congregational Union. He was a popular lecturer and wrote many articles for journals and newspapers. The selections in this book cover many subjects including 'The Queen's jubilee Year' 'Mrs Browning' 'John's Defence of the Messiahship of Jesus' 'Selections from Buddha and Buddhism' etc. . 1st Edition.
