FROM WHAT FAR STAR
London: Panther Books . Hamilton & Co. Stafford 1953. Octavo cloth. First edition. Two pacifistic members of a warlike alien race the Gruuls reach the Earth in a faster-than-light starship a few years ahead of a slower Gruul space armada that intends to conquer and colonize the Solar System. The renegade Gruuls who wish to prevent the Gruul expansion and its domination of other intelligent races in the Galaxy provide plans for super weapons to enable the nations of Earth to defend themselves against the alien invaders. Inevitably this starts an arms race between the formerly peaceful Earth governments but Australia invents on their own a protective force field -- which is a game changer. Simultaneously the Gruul space fleet arrives in the Solar System and it is destroyed by combined Earth forces unfortunately the Gruuls do not have protective force fields. Some patchy discoloration to cloth along upper edges of front and rear covers a very good copy in very good dust jacket with light wear at edges some dust soiling to rear panel and clipped price. #150095 Panther Books ... RETURN TO EARTH
London: Printed in Great Britain and Published by Hamilton & Co. Stafford 1951. Octavo pictorial wrappers. First edition. Hamilton 00. 400 years after a catastrophic atomic war has devastated Earth humans in its colony on Venus know nothing of their home planet: history has been altered old books and artifacts locked up in the First Library and space flight declared to be impossible. The planet is controlled by a council of three descendants of the leaders of the first settlers and they are the only colonists who know the truth. Others who discover their origin are immediately put to death. A rogue Venusian scientist builds a space ship and three rebels one under sentence of death for stealing forbidden books flee the planet and travel to Earth. The small tribes of peaceful primitive humans that survive on Earth are threatened by bestial humanoid mutants. The Venusian visitors armed with high tech weapons kill many of the mutants and the rest flee. Two Venusians intend to return to Venus to organize an expedition to colonize Earth but they die before they can carry out their plan. The third likes the Earth as it is and becomes a productive member of a tribe of humans on the now pastoral planet. Clarke Tale of the Future 1978 p. 86. Reginald 01197. Harbottle and Holland A8. Touch of wear at head tail of spine panel 9 mm closed tear at top edge of rear panel repairable a very bright nearly fine copy. #86689 Printed in Great Britain and Published by Hamilton & Co. BERRY Burton Y.
Teenage Styles and Trends 1967-71: A Retrospect
Zurich: Burton Y. Berry 1972. Fine in photo-illustrated laminated boards. Highly sought after and prized since its discovery. First Edition. Quarto. Privately printed for Berry by C.J. Bucher Ltd. Lucerne in an edition of 300 copies. Preface and text by the photographer. 78 pages 63 full-bleed black and white photographs. One of the great unsung and virtually unknown photobooks of the 60s and 70s. The photographer Burton Y. Berry was a career diplomat and an obsessive collector. Influenced by attending a Beatles concert in 1965 Berry sought to understand and document youth culture by photographing mostly male youths in Zurich where he was stationed. While the idea was to capture the hairstyles of his subjects what unfolds page by page is nothing short of a forensic sweep of European youth fashion and culture at the apex of the sixties. The book could be dismissed as amateur hobby but Berry was an excellent photographer book designer and chronicler of his surroundings. Parr / Badger v3 80. [Zurich]: Burton Y. Berry unknown books

An Authentic Narrative Of The Proceedings Of His Majesty's Squadron Under The Command Of Rear Admiral Sir Horatio Nelson From Its Sailing From Gibraltar To The Conclusion Of The Glorious Battle Of The Nile; Drawn Up From The Minutes Of An Officer Of Rank In The Squadron
London: Printed For T. Cadell Jun and W. Davies 1798. Second edition. Hardcover. Modern quarter morocco and marbled boards. Fine. 56 pages. 21 x 13 cm. With folding copper-engraved plan of the Battle of the Nile also called the Battle of Abu Quir one of Nelson's greatest victories restoring the British presence in the Mediterranean and dooming Napoleon's venture in Egypt. Sir Edward Berry 1768-1831 was captain of the flagship during the battle and when Nelson was wounded prevented him from falling by catching him in his arms. Berry afterwards published the above work anonymously. Berry is said to have been the only officer in the navy of his time except vice-admiral Collingwood who had three medals having commanded a ship in three general actions -- the Nile Trafalgar and St. Domingo. The DNB calls this work "a pamphlet which under the special circumstances of its authorship is of singular interest and value." Clean fresh copy with plan in excellent condition. Printed For T.
