Forget, offering him two drawings by the landscape painter and illustrator Adrien Dauzats from his personal collection, also repeating an offer for the entire collection: "Résolu, décidément, à me défaire, à l'amiable, des nombreux dessins qui encombrent mon appartement, je commence par me rendre au desir que vous m'avez exprimé de posséder les deux beaux dessins de Dauzats que vous m'avez vu acheter à sa vente, en vous les cédant, ce la va sans dire, au prix coûtant [...] Maintenant, je viens vous répéter ce que je vous ai dit cinquante fois, c'est à dire que vous avez une excellente affaire à exploiter chez moi en prenant en bloc tous mes dessins, au prix qu'il me coûtent [...]". - The recipient might be the French painter Charles-Gabriel Forget (1807-73). Barroilhet is best remembered today for originating roles in several operas by Gaetano Donizetti and Fromental Halévy. For Donizetti he created Eustachio de Saint-Pierre in "L'assedio di Calais" (1836), the Lord Duke of Nottingham in "Roberto Devereux" (1837), Alfonso XI of Castile in "La favorite" (1840), and Camoëns in "Dom Sebastien" (1843). The Halevy roles he created include King Lusignan in "La reine de Chypre" (1841), the title role in the premiere of "Charles VI" (1843), and Mirobolante in "Le lazzarone, ou Le bien vient en dormant" (1844). - Slightly brownstained.

brossura In una testimonianza del 1955 Barth così si esprimeva: «Debbo confessare che da anni e anni incomincio le mie giornate, grazie all'invenzione del grammofono, a cui non sarà mai resa sufficiente lode, con l'ascolto di Mozart, e soltanto dopo (per tacere della lettura dei giornali) mi dedico alla dogmatica. Debbo anche confessare, per di più che se dovessi mai giungere in paradiso, domanderei anzitutto di Mozart, e soltanto dopo cercherei Agostino e Tommaso, Lutero, Calvino e Schleiermacher. Ma quale spiegazione dare? Forse, in poche parole, questa: il pane quotidiano comprende anche il gioco. Io sento che Mozart - il Mozart degli anni giovanili e quello più maturo, e come nessun altro - gioca. Il giocare è però qualcosa che richiede abilità, e pertanto un impegno alto e severo. Sento in Mozart un'arte del gioco, quale non mi è dato percepire in nessun altro. Il bel gioco presuppone che si abbia una conoscenza infantile del centro - perché la si ha del principio e della fine - di tutte le cose. Sento che la musica di Mozart scaturisce da questo centro». Il presente volumetto - realizzato nel 1956, in occasione del secondo centenario della nascita del grande musicista (1756-1791) - raccoglie quattro preziosi testi barthiani su Mozart, qui tradotti integralmente per la prima volta in italiano.

Ich komme noch Samstag mit Buch und Cello: ungefähr 1/2 7 Uhr [...]". - Barthlmé war drei Jahre lang Kapellmeister im k. u. k. Infanterie-Regiment Nr. 25 in Ungarn. Zwischen 1879 und 1900 war er als Musiklehrer, Cellist im "Quartett Duesberg" sowie als Solocellist am Theater an der Wien tätig. Von 1901 bis 1904 fungierte er als zweiter Kapellmeister des Wiener Konzertvereins. 1912 wurde er zum Professor an der Akademie für Musik und darstellende Kunst ernannt, wo er Violoncello unterrichtete. Er trat als Cellist mit dem Quartett Kollmann-Barthlmé auf und komponierte Volkslieder und Walzer.
