‎Sheet music: Pull the Cork Out of Erin Let the River Shannon Flow‎

‎New York: McCarthy & Fisher Music Pub. Co 1917. Softcover. Near Fine. First edition. Cover illustration from a photograph of Nora Bayes by Fred Hartsook. Folio. Single bifolium making four pages. Light edgewear and light rubbing to the exterior else near fine. For voice and piano. Plate imprint "Pull The Cork etc. 2." The front cover states that this song is "Nora Bayes' sensational march song at the Eltinge Theatre New York" and features a striking black-and-white portrait of Bayes in a stunning gown with a fur cape and muff. Bayes was a popular singer and performer in the early 20th century with her early success found in various vaudeville and variety acts like The Ziegfeld Follies and later recording the patriotic hit song of the first world war "Over There." ‎Boston: Oliver Ditson Company 1915. Softcover. Very Good. First edition. Folio. Single bifolium with a single-sheet-insert making six pages. Owner name and music shop stamp on the front cover foxing to the exterior and minor edgewear still a complete and very good copy. For low voice and piano. Plate number 5-121-70708-3. Though the lyrics to this piece do not explicitly relate to WWI the timing of its publication makes its connection clear. Especially interesting is its subtle connection in theme to a famous novel that would be written about The Great War All Quiet on the Western Front; just as Paul Bäumer returns to his family's comfortable home while on leave and takes stark notice of the absurd contrast of the still existent quiet domesticity taking place while his fellow soldiers continue to suffer in the hell of the trenches so does Burnet highlight this juxtaposition "Sword-song and battle roar and the great grim fighting line!/And what of the woman in the door and the blown grape on the vine." ‎Philadelphia: John Aitken 1811. Softcover. Good. Unknown edition. Collated by Kotzeluch. Folio. Single sheet printed on the recto only and folded to make two pages of content. Notched and worn along the fold with numbers penned on each page from once being bound within an album edgewear including chips and tears separating at the top of the fold and two tape repairs to the unprinted verso a good or better copy. A vocal duet with piano accompaniment. This song is originally titled "The Banks o' Doon" but is sometimes called "Ye Banks and Braes" in reference to the lyrics of the third version of the song. Burns set the words to the air "The Caledonian Hunt's Delight" and he wrote three versions of the lyrics all originally published in 1791. The lyrics printed here are from the third version. Also included is a verse by G. Thomson untitled but described as a "beautiful English song" that can be sung to the same tune; the first line is "Unless with my Amanda blest." Notches in the spine from once being bound within an album the number 24 inked at the top of the recto of each leaf top half of the front wrapper separated from the spine and foxing in the margins throughout still a very good and complete copy. For voice and piano. The lyrics to this song are from a poem by Burns that is sometimes referred to as "Sweet Afton" and sometimes referred to as "Afton Water" though when presented as a song it is typically referred to as "Flow Gently Sweet Afton" making this score unique. There are multiple compositions set to this poem but according to Wikipedia the most widely known is the 1837 composition by Jonathan E. Spilman. OCLC locates four holdings of this version by Wetmore one of which is a variant that's three pages instead of five and credited to Millet's Music Saloon instead of W.E. Millet but in the same year 1938. Published by W. E. Millet unknown‎

‎BURNS, Roberty, words by, and William Shore, music by‎

‎Sheet music: O Willie Brew'd a Peck O'Maut: A Glee for Three Voices‎

‎London: John Blockley no date. Softcover. Good. Unknown edition. Transcribed for the piano by Jules Favre. Folio. 9pp. Printed wrappers. A contemporary stitched cloth repair along the entirety of the spine six tape repairs to the front wrapper soiling throughout though most severe on the front wrapper edgewear and a burn mark on the bottom of the front wrapper affecting throughout a complete but good only copy. For three voices alto tenor and bass and piano. Plate imprint "O! Willie brew'd - in E flat." "The music composed in imitation of the Scottish melody and dedicated to The Amateur Glee & Catch Club Manchester" from the front wrapper. Glee and catch clubs were popular from the late 18th century into the Victorian era and are considered to be distinctly English forms of composition and performance; glees are part songs written for multiple voices as are catches though they're typically more humorous in subject and are performed as a round in which two or more voices repeatedly sing the same melody but start at different times "Row Row Row Your Boat" is a famous example. OCLC locates two holdings of this edition. John Blockley unknown‎
