A partire dagli anni Settanta, con i Parliament-Funkadelic, ha rivoluzionato la black music, inaugurando una mescolanza di generi in cui il rhythm'n'blues più ballabile si fondeva con la psichedelia e l'hard rock, e allestendo spettacoli dal vivo in cui l'esperienza sonora era accompagnata da giochi di luci accecanti e bizzarre scenografie ispirate ai viaggi spaziali. Negli anni Ottanta il percorso di Clinton si è ampliato: come produttore, ha lanciato la carriera di band di culto quali i Red Hot Chili Peppers, prima di venire a sua volta "scoperto" negli anni Novanta e Duemila dalla scena rap e hip hop (espliciti sono i riconoscimenti che gli hanno tributato artisti come Snoop Dogg, D'Angelo e Kendrick Lamar). Superati i settant'anni, George Clinton si racconta oggi in questa autobiografia. Con una voce a metà fra il vecchio filosofo saggio e lo zio dalla parlantina sciolta, ci guida nei meandri della sua storia personale e in quelli di un immaginario che attinge con spericolatezza alla fantascienza come al fumetto, alla realtà sociale come ai viaggi lisergici.
