Er komponierte zwei Opern, Chor- und Orchesterstücke sowie eine Vielzahl von Werken für Blas- und Streichinstrumente.

Dies wird aber erst in 2-3 Wochen möglich sein, da ich noch einige Kürzungen u. Änderungen vornehmen will. Was Ihre Befürchtungen anläßlich der Verbreitung meines Werkes betrifft, so kann ich dieselben nicht theilen, denn ich bin überzeugt, dass es nur eine Frage der Zeit sein wird bis meine Anschauungen so ziemlich allgemeine werden [...] Bitte prüfen Sie mein Werk und falls Sie den Verlag (natürlich für alle Länder) übernehmen wollten, so theilen Sie mir Ihre Bedingungen mit [...]". - Der Schüler J. Joachims verfasste neben einigen Kompositionen wie Etüden und Solostücken für Violine die "Technik des Violinspiels" (1881, 1885) mit dem Schwerpunkt Lagenspiel.

Portrait im ¾-Profil bzw. halbfigürliche Darstellung. - Herrmann debütierte 1922 als Mephisto in Gounods "Faust" an der Oper von Zagreb, war am Deutschen Theater von Prag und am Staatstheater von Darmstadt engagiert; 1934 folgte er einem Ruf als erster Bassist an die Hamburger Staatsoper, an der er bis 1961 wirkte. Er gab zahlreiche Gastspiele, u. a. an der Covent Garden Opera in London, 1942/43 als Waldner in "Arabella" in Salzburg sowie 1952 als Rocco im "Fidelio" bei den Festspielen von Edinburgh.
