‎First printing of the papers in which Vauquelin describes and announces his discovery of Beryllium.""The discovery of beryllium resulted from the Abbé Haüy's observation of the close similarity and probable identity of beryl and the emerald. At his suggestion Vauquelin made some very careful chemical analyses of these two minerals, and found in 1798 that they are indeed identical, and that they contain a new earth, which he named glucina, but which is now known as beryllia. The metal was isolated thirty years later by Wöhler and Bussy independently.....At the suggestion of the editors of the ""Annales de Chemie...."", he called the new earth 'glucina', meaning sweet."" ‎Édition originale très rare. Traité thérapeutique de Bartholomé Alexandre de Vaulx et plaidoyer paracelsien dans la grande querelle qui bouleversa la médecine au XVIIe siècle entre "iatrochimistes", ici nommés "sylvianistes", de l’école de pensée de Paracelse partisans de l’introduction de la chimie dans les doctrines et les pratiques médicales et pharmaceutiques et "galénistes" de l'école de Galien partisans d'une thérapeutique (alors dominante) basée sur la saignée et les drogues. « Au lecteur (…) ce petit traité pour montrer qu'il y a une autre méthode bien plus sûre, plus facile et plus agréable pour guérir les malades que celle dont on se sert journalièrement. Le commencement de ce traité montre en abrégé ce que c'est de la Chymie, sa nécessité dans la médecine, et comment elle est dans notre corps, de laquelle plusieurs de nos médecins modernes ont une horreur, et la voudraient bien faire passer pour dangereuse s'ils pouvaient… Étant une chose hors de doute que la Chymie n'est pas seulement un abrégé de la médecine, mais une de ses principales bases qui nous donne la connaissance des causes des maladies, et des moyens pour les ôter ». Quelques chapitres : la Chymie imite la Nature, Femmes en couche, Fièvre Maligne, Du Syrop de pavot rouge, Une pierre dans la vessie, Un médecin doit savoir juger la dose d'un médicament et pourquoi on peut s'en servir, Nos humeurs sont trop obstinés pour obéir aux remèdes de nos ancêtres, Dans l'Antimoine sont infusés tous les médicaments nécessaires etc. Le livre imprimé à Bruxelles, dédicacé au baron de Gueldres Chevalier de l'Ordre Teutonique, fut censuré par les Facultés de médecine de Paris, Douai, Louvain, Bruxelles et Anvers. Le frontispice manque ; pâle mouillure, coiffes arasées, caisson de tête manquant, coins émoussés. Provenance : Stanislas de Guaita avec son ex-libris “Kabbalisticis” manuscrit en regard du titre.Caillet III, 11063 ; Guaita, Bibliothèque occulte, n°1048 ; inconnu à Dorbon, Duveen, Ferguson, Waller ; la Bibliotheca Osleriana (6329) cite la censure de l'ouvrage publiée en 1679 par la Faculté de Paris : « Galenists vs iatrochemists, derisively chimerics - a detailed condemnation by the Paris Faculty at the request of their Belgian confrères, of a book on therapeutics by Bartholomé Alexandre de Vaulx "La Vérité descouverte Bruxelles 1676" ».‎
