New York.: Harper & Bros. Broken run February 5 1876 to April 7 1877. The volume begins with the issues of February 5 and 12 1876 then moves to April 8 continuing through December. May 13 and June 24 are missing; July 8 August 12 and December 30 are Supplement only. 1877 issues begin with January 6 and end with April 7. March 24 is Supplement only. Covers and endpapers of the volume are detached and the leather spine is missing. In general the contents are in good condition with some of the usual issues of a newspaper volume including a horizontal crease from folding for delivery wear and short tears to edges etc. There are a number of torn pages; the fold-out view of Philadelphia May 27 1876 Supplement a foldout supplement is missing two of the four panels January 27 Nast cartoon is missing half the sheet. The volume is an oddity with many tipped-in centerfolds in good condition. Full of political cartoons that transcend the ages. There are several images of Chinese interest: the double-page "Chinese Emigration to America—Pacific Mail Ship 'Alaska'" pp 408-409; double-page "The Races at Victoria Hong Kong" pp 686-687 two small spots at top border of image; "Chinese Military Drill" two images on one page: 923; Chinese Itinerant Barbers p.1024; Chinese Immigrants at the San Francisco Custom House p.81. All three in good clean condition each with accompanying text. Spotting issue noted.
