Tre fotografie originali del Dottor Tanner, prima, durante e dopo la cura di digiuno.
Tre fotografie originali, applicate all'epoca singolarmente su cartoncino, che immortalano il Dottor Tanner, prima durante e dopo la cura di digiuno durata 40 giorni. Il Dr. S.H. Tanner, medico di Minneapolis, digiunò per quaranta giorni nel 1880 per dimostrare ad un suo collega medico, la giustezza del digiunismo. Beveva 2/3 litri d'acqua ogni 2 ore. Alla fine del trattamento perse 17 Kg (ben visibile nelle foto). Lo analizzarono compitamente; nessun effetto patologico, polso e temperatura rimasero stabili e regolari durante tutto il tempo del trattamento. Il digiuno, il riposo fisiologico fatto in modo intelligente, è uno dei metodi per purificarsi e rinascere con il corpo e con la mente, sostiene il Dr. Hotema, in linea del resto con la Scuola Igienista Americana e con tutto il salutismo mondiale, inclusi lo svizzero Dr. Max Bircher-Benner ed il tedesco Dr. Arnold Ehret. E' la cultura corretta, il rispetto delle precise regole del corpo umano che può portare a dei risultati, non certo i dubbi dei mediocri o le approssimazioni dei pasticcioni. La maggior parte delle persone ha paura del digiuno. La medicina si dice contraria e così spinge la gente ad astenersi da questa pratica fondamentale. I medici sono stati ammaestrati a dire che persino 6/7 giorni di digiuno fanno male alla salute. Trattasi chiaramente di atteggiamento folle e diseducativo, col quale si fa uno sgambetto e un dispetto alla salute dei popoli. Ovviamente, chi digiuna non usa e non può usare alcun farmaco; questa la vera ragione del boicottaggio medico al digiuno. Esemplari perfettamente conservati. /, /, 16,5 x 11 cm. (cartoncino)

Elenco degli Autori di Medicina che in questo volume si incontrano: El Breviario di Maetsro Serapione. El libro Tegni & De regimine sanitatis de Galieno. El Canone del Principe Avicenna. El Libro ad Almanzor de Rafis. Gli Amphorismi del Vecchio Ipocrate. La Practicha di Ali Abas. Al fondo del Prohemio: Il modo di pubblicazione non ha bisogno di comento; le figure intercalate servono a mostrare il passaggio dalla miniatura del codice alla silografia del libro a stampa; nella loro scelta mi sono studiato di avere miniature della fine del quattrocento e di carattere artistico adattato all'arte piemontese di quel tempo. Pubblicando coi tipi della Stamperia antica, ricostituita dalla Commissione esecutiva della Esposizione Internazionale di Torino 1911, l'opera di maestro Giacobino, tributiamo in nobile maniera un omaggio, per quanto lontano, alla famiglia de Confienza che prima introdusse la stampa in Torino. Credo aver raggiunto lo scopo, avendo messo in luce uno Scrittore piemontese sino ad ora sconosciuto di quella Famiglia e nipote di Pantaleone; colla sua impresa gentilizia volli adornare l'ultima pagina di questo lavoro accompagnandola alla nuova marca tipografica, a comporre la quale presi per base quella del grande stampatore vercellese Bernardino Stagnino da Trino di Monferrato. Molte xilografie nel testo, una al frontespizio, riproduzione del codice manoscritto akl centro della trascrizione, marche tipografiche al fondo. Opera stampata su carta distinta vergata in barbe, in 200 esemplari (indicazione riportata da tutti i repertori consultati), in esemplare perfettamente conservato in ogni sua parte. Binding professionally restored at edges and corners, but still with traces of use, some scratches and overall wear. End-papers renewed with old paper. Title-page printed in red and black inside a broad woodcut compartment depicting Dioscorides and the author and with printed mottos around ovals. Both the title-page and the large printer's device at the end are by Jost Amman. (10),460,(2),(35) pp. With more than 800 woodcuts of plants in the text and several illustrations of destilling apparatus in the section ""Von Distillier un Brennoefen"" (fol.456 ff.). A few leaves neatly repaired at corners and at outer margins. At foot of title an ink-erasement repaired. A few leaves with faint dampstainings to upper and right margins. A few scattered brownspots. Some margins slightly brownspotted. Leaves of index at end with some small wormholes. In general a well preserved copy, professionally restored where needed.
