New York: HarperEntertainment An Imprint of HarperCollinsPublishers Light Creasing on Front Rear Covers; Front Rear Covers Spine Lightly Chipped; Edges Moderately Soiled. NOW A MAJOR MOTION PICTURE. The Original Novels by C. S. Lewis. The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe is now a major motion picture from Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media. MOVIE/TV TIE-IN: This series of books was the basis for the feature film series and various television series. CONTENTS: The Magician's Nephew; The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe; The Horse and His Boy; Prince Caspian; The Voyage of the Dawn Treader; The Silver Chair; The Last Battle. Although The Magician's Nephew was written several years after C. S. Lewis first began The Chronicles of Narnia he wanted it to be read as the first book in the series. HarperCollins is happy to present these books in the order in which Professor Lewis preferred. ISBN-10: 0-06-076545-3. SERIES: omnibus including the complete series of seven novels. SYNOPSIS: Journeys to the end of the world fantastic creatures and epic battles between good and evil--the book that has it all is The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe written in 1949 by C. S. Lewis. But Lewis did not stop there. Six more boos followed and together they became known as The Chronicles of Narnia. For over fifty years The Chronicles of Narnia have transcended the fantasy genre to become part of the canon of classic literature. Each of the seven books is a masterpiece drawing the reader into a land where magic meets reality and the result is a fictional world whose scope has fascinated generations. The edition presents all seven books--unabridged--in one impressive volume. Clive Staples Lewis known as Jack to his friends was born in 1898. Lewis and his good friend J. R. R. Tolkien the author of the Lord of the Rings trilogy were part of the Inklings an informal writers' club that met at a local pub to discuss story ideas. Lewis's fascination with fairy tales myths and ancient legends coupled with inspiration drawn from his childhood led him to write The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe one of the best-loved books of all time. Six further books followed to become the immensely popular Chronicles of Narnia. The final title in the series The Last Battle was awarded the Carnegie Medal one of the highest marks of excellence in children's literature. Trade Paperback. Very Good. Farther Up and Farther In 16. Farewell to Shadowlands. SYNOPSIS: This is the seventh and last of C. S. Lewis's books about the magical and mystical land of Narnia country of Aslan the Lion and the Talking Beasts which was first discovered by the children who went through the back of the wardrobe in The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe. This time the struggle is between young King Tirian and the forces of evil as represented by Shift the Ape and his poor dupe Puzzle the donkey. Shift dresses Puzzle up in a lion-skin and passes him off as the great Aslan himself corrupting the animals slaughtering the talking trees and destroying the harmony of the kingdom. Jill and Eustace Peter Edmund and Lucy all come to help in the great battles which follow and before he story comes to its glorious and final ending you will meet again many favourite characters from The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe Prince Caspian and the other books. Clive Staples Lewis was born on 29 November 1898 at Belfast. His father was a solicitor and his mother who died when he was a child was a clergyman's daughter. He had one brother a few years older than himself and when both were at home they spent much of their time together inventing imaginary lands and writing about them - though not at all in the romantic way we would expect of the future creator of Narnia . . . The seven Chronicles of Narnia which were published annually from 1950 to 1956 have already taken their place among the great children's classics. But like the other great books which are enjoyed by all ages the Narnian stories were really written to please the author himself. "I wrote the books I should have liked to read" Lewis has said. "That's always been my reason for writing. People won't write the books I want so I have to do it for myself" and he insists that the proper reason for writing a children's story is "because a children's story is the best art form for something you have to say". Besides his works of literary scholarship Lewis is best known for various books on theology the most famous being The Screwtape Letters - from an old devil to a younger one on the best means of tempting mankind which of course was intended to help his readers to be on their guard against the more cunningly hidden temptations by which we are beset. And also for his two romances of other worlds Out of the Silent Planet and Perelandra perhaps the finest and most poetical stories of visits to Mars and Venus ever written. C. S. Lewis died in 1963 soon after his retirement. First Thus 16th Printing. Mass Market Paperback. Fine. Illus. by Pauline Baynes. 12mo - over 6" - 7" tall. Puffin Books, Penguin Books Ltd Paperback
