(tra gli incisori Guillaume de la Haye e Thomas Conder). Prima edizione del famigerato e raro Strabone d'Oxford, monumentale pubblicazione curata dal Falconer (1772-1839) che collazionò molteplici edizioni antiche in un lavoro di enorme erudizione già iniziato anni prima dallo zio omonimo (1738-1792) allo scopo di editare un capolavoro. Paradossalmente l'Edinb. Review e il Class. Journal criticarono l'officina clarendoniana per gli errori tipografici [Graesse VI, 506]. Cfr. Hoffmann III, 455; Dibdin II, 435. Ottimo esemplare.

6 volumi in-8° (cm. 20,3), eleganti legature coeve in m. marocchino con titolo in oro su tasselli verdi e decorazioni in oro ai dorsi, tagli spruzzati; carte in buono stato, alcune tavole di tabelle ripiegate n.t.; lieve brunitura uniforme e qualche sporadica fioritura. Seconda edizione della famosa opera di geografia caratterizzata dalla moderna impostazione enciclopedica delle conoscenze. Il set è privo dell'Atlas universel pour la geographie de Guthrie con le tavole incise da Alexandre Blondeau, che Langlois proponeva separatamente. Ottimo esemplare.

Edizione originale di questa rara operetta che descrive un gran numero di borghi e ne racconta la leggendaria fondazione (con capitoli sull'impero, sui turchi, sulla cronologia del mondo). Cfr.
