‎Édition originale de la traduction française de cette relation estimée, illustrée de 15 figures tirées sur 5 planches dépliantes. L'édition originale anglaise est de 1744. Missionné par la Royal African Company, Smith séjourna pendant toute l'année 1726 dans le Golfe de Guinée, pour lever les plans des forts de la compagnie. Il en profita pour étudier les moeurs des habitants, la faune et la flore de la région. Il remarque que les petits royaumes peuplant cette côte vivent en bonne intelligence, qu'ils se font rarement la guerre, et qu'en conséquence faute de prisonniers, le commerce des esclaves y est peu pratiqué. Artist's biography: Ann Smith was a goldsmith by trade a highly skilled artisan working out of Chipping Campden in the Cotswolds but with a passion for botanical illustration. She was a member of various botanical art societies; she exhibited at the Royal Horticultural Society RHS Botanical Art exhibitions held in The Lindley Hall London; for the 2004 exhibition she prepared a mixed collection of botanical works including studies of Romneya coulteri and Papaver orientalis 'Beauty of Livermere' in a later exhibition she presented a themed collection featuring various Meconopsis blue popy species and cultivars.
