‎Erste Ausgabe.- Hatte Basedow bereits 1758 in seiner 'Practischen Philosophie für alle Stände' die Glückseligkeit und Gemeinnützigkeit des Menschen als oberstes Erziehungsziel aus der Aufklärungsphilosophie abgeleitet, so ging er im vorliegenden Werk noch einen Schritt weiter und forderte die Einrichtung konfessionsfreier Schulen und eine Erziehung im Geiste der Aufklärung (vgl. LdKJ I, 110). Zu diesem Zweck stellte er der christlichen Offenbarungsreligion eine streng in den Grenzen der Vernunft verbleibende natürliche Religion gegenüber. Das Werk erregte solches Aufsehen, dass Basedow "bald von allen Seiten als Ketzer verschrien wurde ... Schließlich wurden seine Schriften konfisziert und ihm verboten, irgend etwas in Hamburg drucken zu lassen" (ADB 2, 116).- Der vorliegende selbständige erste Band enthält die positive oder konstruktive Darstellung seines Systems (Anthropologie und Theologie). Ohne den zweiten oder kritischen Band, der "völlig unabhänglich von dem ersten" (Vorbericht zu Bd 2) die erkenntnistheoretischen Voraussetzungen behandelt (Über die Denkarten des menschlichen Verstandes und über abstrakte Wahrheiten und Irrtümer).‎

Besonders taten sich dabei hervor Johann Dietrich Winckler, Pastor der Hamburger Hauptkirche St. Nicolai, der in einer auch gedruckten Predigt öffentlich gegen Basedow gewettert hatte, und der Philosoph Gottfried Profe, Direktor des Altonaer Pädagogiums, der einen entsprechenden Zeitschriftenartikel veröffentlicht hatte.- Meusel I, 191.‎

Sri Pratap College Srinagar, did his masters in Environmental Science from University of Kashmir Srinagar.
