‎Par Brada, pseudonyme de Henrietta Consuela Sansom, comtesse de Quigini Puliga (1847-1938). Fille d'un riche expatrié britannique, Charles Sansom, elle passe la majeure partie de son enfance dans une pension pour demoiselles située près de l'Arc de Triomphe à Paris. Étant née hors mariage, elle se retrouve sans ressources à la mort de son père, dont l'héritage est partagé par ses enfants légitimes. Elle épouse en 1868 un comte italien de vingt ans son aîné, Efisio Quigini Puliga, conseiller de la Légation d'Italie à Paris, qui meurt en 1876 des suites d'une longue maladie. Pour subvenir à l'éducation de ses deux jeunes enfants, elle commence alors à écrire des chroniques et des nouvelles sous le pseudonyme de Bradamente, abrégée par la suite en Brada, qui sont publiées dans le Journal des débats, Le Figaro, la Revue de Paris ainsi que dans plusieurs autres périodiques. Ses romans et nouvelles, qui paraissent bientôt en librairie, connaissent un large succès et sont récompensés à plusieurs reprises par l'Académie française. Elle continue ainsi à écrire jusqu'à l'âge de plus de 80 ans, menant à Paris une vie simple entrecoupée de séjours en Italie. Elle raconte ici ses souvenirs de pension et, parmi nombre d'autres anecdotes, les visites qu'elle faisait à la veuve de Balzac. — "J'ai été. la petite fille qui poussait son cerceau dans la grande allée des Tuileries, qui s'arrêtait aux Champs-Elysées devant Guignol et les manèges des chevaux de bois, qui regardait dans l'avenue la montée et la descente des beaux équipages, qui suivait sur le Lac gelé les ébats des patineurs, la. course des traîneaux. J'ai été la petite fille qui voyait passer l'Empereur et l'Impératrice, qui applaudissait au défilé des troupes revenant de Crimée. J'ai même franchi un jour les portes augustes du palais des Tuileries pour assister à la répétition, d'un ballet de cour. This collection consists of two parts: 1 the complete Manitoba submission 'Manitoba's Case' contained within nine perfect bound card covered volumes each measuring 8 1/2 x 11' and contained within blue card covers; and 2 24 individual reports variously bound in similar fashion or in coil or in buckram hardcover but all with more or less similar blue covers. All titles show varying degrees of wear and soiling some rubber stamps to eps but all are in at least good condition.<br /> These individual submissions provide an exhaustive and complete picture of Manitoba and Western Canada in the 1930s. Some report titles are: Agricultural Income in Rural Manitoba The Commercial Fishing Industry Employment of Women The Fur Industry The Live Stock Industry The Population of Manitoba The Poultry Industry Transportation The Youth Problem etc. Each report contains from 20 to 367 pages with most being over 100 pages in length and extensively supported with statistics. This is the complete submission by the Province of Manitoba to the federal royal commission known as the Rowell-Sirois Commission. The Report issued by the Commission has been called 'a landmark in the development of Canadian federalism' Cdn. Encyc. p. 612. The Commission was established by Ottawa in 1937 to 're-examine the economic and financial basis of Confederation and the distribution of legislative powers in the light of the economic and social development of the last 70 years'. As a result of the Comission's recommendations there was a shift in taxation power from the provinces to the federal government and the perfidious system of equalization payments came about. This January 1804 session laws volume preserves the enacted statutes of the Massachusetts General Court including the original incorporation of Bradford Academy an institution that became one of the earliest centers of advanced education in the Commonwealth and a foundational site in the history of women's education in New England. Printed under legislative authority the volume opens with the formal constitutional language "BE it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives in General Court assembled" situating the text within the statutory framework established by the 1780 Massachusetts Constitution. Among its enactments is the charter establishing Bradford Academy later recognized as the third oldest post-secondary institution in Massachusetts after Harvard University and Williams College. Initially admitting both male and female students at a time when advanced instruction for women remained severely restricted Bradford evolved by 1836 into the first all-female academy in Massachusetts marking a significant development in the institutionalization of women's academic training in the early republic.<br /> <br /> Acts and Laws. January 12 1804 Session. Boston 1804. Pamphlet volume identified as Vol. 14 of 17 for the legislative session. The title page bears the Commonwealth device and the heading "IN THE YEAR OF OUR LORD 1804" followed by Chapter I "An act in addition to an act entitled 'An act to incorporate John Codman and others into a company by the name of The Suffolk Insurance Company.'" The volume includes commercial financial and educational incorporation statutes enacted during the session. Pamphlet format.<br /> <br /> Beyond its educational significance the volume documents the expanding legal infrastructure of early American corporate and civic development. Incorporation acts for insurance companies academies and other enterprises reflect Massachusetts' position as a commercial and maritime center in the Federalist era when legislative charters served as the primary mechanism for authorizing financial institutions educational foundations and public improvements. The Bradford Academy act is particularly notable for embedding coeducational authorization within state law at a formative moment in the republic's institutional growth. Early session law pamphlets preserve statutory language prior to later codification and revision offering direct evidence of legislative intent and institutional formation.
