Engraving of school building beneath large decorative text with school name across the top of certificate. The early 20th century saw new educational opportunities for American women who upon graduating from high school could attend integrated colleges. Educational activists like Catharine E Beecher advocated fiercely for women's right to enter any college based on the belief that gender equality was contingent on the quality of female education and institutional opportunities to support it.
