Dr Kaushik Chattopadhyay
Sociology of Education: Theories and Issues [Hardcover]
ABOUT THE BOOK A book can deal in short compass with a large subject. In this exploration, the book does not tell a story of an all-inclusive knowledge, but definitely it tells a story of new knowledge. This narrative nature of the book has a use-value that determines its importance. The explorative nature and dimension deal with the need of that book to a reader. We judge the level of importance of a non-fiction from four specific perspectives. Firstly, a student-specific perspective that focuses on syllabi coverage. Secondly, a scholar-specific perspective that gives emphasis on the theoretical and empirical dimensions. Thirdly, a teacher-specific perspective that stresses on different new propositions, suggestions and recommendations. Fourthly, through a short scan into the innovative ideas, a general reader-specific perspective considers the significance of expenditure against the collection of that book. Considering all these utilitarian aspects, the book – Sociology of Education: Theories and Issues – is written anew inspite of many books are there in the library on this topic. About The Book : The book ‘INTRODUCTION TO DEVELOPMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY: Genetic Foundations and Prenatal Development’is the first edition in author’s attempt to prepare a comprehensive text on chronological portrayal of life-span development. The book is divided into six chapters and encompasses an extensive introduction to the field of developmental psychology, its concept, nature, scope, issues, goals, and historical background. It provides a lucid and simple description of the major theories, and methods of studying human development. The representation of human development starting from conception throughout prenatal development to birth process has been made in an orderly sequence. The description of the process of beginning of life, covering an introduction to reproductive cells, the fertilization process- natural as well as alternative techniques, are articulated. The major focus of the book is to throw light on the genetic foundations of human life. 247 p. Photo illustrations. 8vo. Original full cloth binding. Hardbound. Fine. An excellent study that refutes the idea that members of the old German Baptist Brethren sect were 'ignorant and backwards'. Instead, it seems that parent-child interaction was very appropriate for the place and era. Sound and high quality relationships fostered a strong community.

Investment As a Drive of Economic Growth [Hardcover]
ABOUT THE BOOK:- The growth of the economy is reflected through the rise in incomes of the people, but development is a wider term, which includes both growth and qualitative improvement in the standard of living of the people and a better distribution of incomes. Development thus involves a rise in the level of income and the level of investments leads to better standard of living in general through growth plus socio-economic changes and development. The inflation is creeping up, to almost 8 percent at times, and this means that the value of money saved goes down instead of going up. In today's less income growth and highly increasing cost of living economy, one has to know how to use his/her savings or idle funds to generate higher returns. A bewildering range of investment alternatives is available. Savings form an important part of the economy of any nation. With the savings invested in various options available to the people, the money acts as the driver for growth of the country. Indian financial scene too presents a plethora of avenues to the investors. Though certainly not the best or deepest of markets in the world, it has reasonable options for an ordinary man to invest his savings. At present an individual has a variety of investment opportunities. As there are different types of investment channels, public get confused when and where they plan to make investment, by selecting the best sort of investment and rejecting the rest is very difficult to the investors. Hence one must pay much attention as regards to investment decision. An investment decision must be made with definite objectives. Before proceeding, the investor should be very clear as to specific requirements and aspirations. It could be a return or capital appreciation or safety or tax relief or any other peculiar factor that a particular investor desires. Depending upon that and on the basis of the objectives, investors make the investment decision by selection. Such a process offers the silver lining of golden return to investors. People invest to multiply their savings in order to fulfill their aspirations for a bigger house, a higher education for their children or a secured retirement for them. To achieve these objectives, the investor has a wide variety of products and services to choose from. One can deposit savings in a bank account, buy shares or bonds on the stock exchange, or buy a life insurance policy or invest in a retirement plan among other investment alternatives. This book highlights the different investment avenues available to the investors, investigates the reasons behind the investment decisions, and identifies the factors influencing the preference of the investors. It also analyzes the investors' attitudes towards a specific investment pattern and puts forth the problems faced by the professionals in the process of building their investment pattern. Saving entails a tradeoff because it requires consuming less now in exchange for later consuming more. While those who sacrifice to save now can themselves enjoy higher consumption in the future, some of the resulting increase in the nation's stock and the related income will also benefit future generations. Thus current saving and investment decision have profound implication for the level of wellbeing in the future and current generations are in a sense stewards of the economy on behalf of future generations. English Language in India [Hardcover]
ABOUT THE BOOK: This book takes the reader on a journey that includes an impressive account of the extent of English language usage in India before expanding to a broader view of English as the Lingua Franca due to its potential as the language of international communication. The growing use of English in India is not an uncontested space, due to concomitant concerns about the possibility of languages and dialects dying out in response. This aspect has not been shied away from in the book, with the author tackling the issue by consoling readers that “the sheer number of speakers of India's native languages more or less ensures that they do not face extinction” The most important one in the book in terms of providing insights into tensions associated with the range of possible future directions for the use of the English language in India. The purpose of this book has been to prove how this massive foreign language growth has evolved and what factors and issues have influenced and affected this transformation. The global spread of English may also be associated with decreased use of endangered languages. The future of English is in the hands of countries outside the core of Anglophone group.
