Hume e la bioetica
br. In bioetica ci si imbatte spesso nel problema del cognitivismo e del non cognitivismo e quindi nella legge di Hume. Che cosa implica per la bioetica conoscere la filosofia di David Hume? Ancora oggi molte figure di etica, anche in bioetica, sono collegate al pensiero di Hume, a cominciare dall'utilitarismo. In questo saggio si prendono in considerazione alcuni temi di fondo della filosofia di Hume per cercare di dare fondamento alle figure morali, che si rifanno alla tradizione humeana. Viene così compiuto un breve excursus, che, passando attraverso un particolare modello di scienza dell'uomo, attraverso i concetti di "impressione" e di "idea", nonché attraverso le condizioni del rapporto causale, l'uniformità della natura come postulato e la conoscenza, arriva a far dire che la ragione è e deve essere schiava delle passioni, non dando alla ragione alcun risalto. Venendo meno il logos ordinante, si ha la necessità di trovare un qualche "cemento" dell'universo, che Hume ha individuato nei principi di associazione, che si possono ritenere il cemento più duttile per tenere insieme e unito il mondo. Essi sono come un nostro schema mentale, reti, simili alle leggi newtoniane, ma più flessibili, quasi convenzioni evolutive, applicabili al mondo esterno, ai nostri pensieri, ai rapporti tra noi e gli altri, che ci consentono di scorgere l'uniformità del mondo, senza dover attingere ad un fondamento, né materiale né spirituale.

Scritti di bioetica. Dalla medicina alla filosofia alla poesia
br. Pare che oggi sia acclarato, anche se non proprio da tutti accettato, che la Bioetica, per quanto si dica essere pluridisciplinare, non possa non avere un profilo di fondo filosofico. Come dire che il background forte e necessario - contrariamente a quanto potrebbe sembrare di primo acchito - per il bioeticista non è dato soltanto dalle dinamiche scientifiche e mediche, ma sono molto più importanti quelle dinamiche che si collocano negli orizzonti delle discipline umanistiche con il linguaggio e il metodo che a queste appartengono. Tale prospettiva è stata colta dall'autore di questo libro che, sin dall'inizio degli anni Novanta, ha cercato di strutturare possibili percorsi di ricerca e di didattica che cercassero di far parlare quanto più possibile tra loro le due culture, da una parte la scienza e la pratica medica e dall'altra la filosofia e non da ultimo la letteratura. A ciò bisogna aggiungere che le impostazioni morali sono numerose e numerose sono anche le figure di bioetica. Quale etica, dunque, per la bioetica? Secondo l'autore bisogna sostenere la "bioetica delle virtù", che è lo zoccolo duro di una prospettiva morale che si basa sulla scia lunga di una tradizione che parte da molto lontano, da Aristotele a Tommaso d'Aquino, per arrivare ai nostri giorni quando è stata riabilitata da numerosi filosofi contemporanei che hanno ribadito il concetto delle finalità della morale, che dovrebbe essere rivolta al raggiungimento di felicità e di vita buona e non deve essere mossa dai doveri.
