L'anonimo compilatore raccomanda di tacere al caffe', di guardarsi dai bene informati, di tacere sul tram, in trattoria, dal parrucchiere, all'osteria, in parole povere in ogni luogo di pubblica frequentazione, e persino in casa di amici.

Conservate le brossure originali; quella anteriore reca due piccoli ritratti fotografici applicati del Crozes e del Revol. Dedica a stampa alla Contessa O'Connell, nata Principessa Nonia Bertong, sormontata dal blasone della stessa. Un facsimile di autografo su doppia pag. f.t. Firma di possesso all'occhietto. Bell'esemplare con inevitabili ingialliture. Quarta edizione, riveduta e aumentata rispetto alla prima del 1872 di svariate testimonianze e documenti. L'abate Crozes, nato ad Albi nel 1806, fu elemosiniere de La Roquette e del Pere Lachaise. Nel 1871 fu uno degli ostaggi della Comune di Parigi e riusci' ad evadere solo grazie all'intervento del capitano Revol. "Ancien sous-officier, Revol combattit comme capitaine sous la Comune. Attache' a la prefecture de Police, il s'efforca de faire liberer l'abbe' Crozes... ce qui ne l'empecha pas d'etre fusille' par les Versaillais, sa condition d'ancien militaire etant redhibitoire pour les Conseils de guerre" (Le Quillec, Bibliographie critique de la Commune de Paris, 640). In-, pp. 240, brossura editoriale verde acqua con titolo entro filetto tipografico. Ripiegata in fine, tabella di "Quadro effettivo delle truppe il 24 dicembre 1870". Dedica a stampa a Giuseppe Garibaldi. Qualche ininfluente restauro a strappetti della brossura e minime fioriture interne; bell'esemplare. Edizione originale di questo volume della celebre scrittrice e patriota anglo-italiana sulla partecipazione di truppe garibaldine in soccorso alla Francia nel corso della Guerra Franco-Prussiana, pubblicato quasi immediatamente dopo gli eventi narrati. Molto poco comune. Jesse Mario, nata a Portsmouth nel 1832, conobbe Garibaldi a Nizza nel 1855, infervorandosi per la causa risorgimentale. L'anno seguente avvicino' a Londra Mazzini e, spronata dal patriota genovese, inizio' la sua strenua lotta in favore della causa italiana, venendo anche incarcerata in Italia (dove era corrispondente del "Daily News"), facendo da infermiera nelle campagne garibaldine e sposando il patriota Alberto Mario. L'ultima campagna di Garibaldi cui prese parte fu quella del 1870 in Francia; da allora visse tra Firenze e Roma, attendendo alla stesura di opere di storia e celebrazione risorgimentale, raccogliendo gli scritti di Cattaneo, Mazzini e Bertani e insegnando letteratura inglese a Firenze. Pasquale Villari, commemorandola alla sua morte, nel 1906, ebbe a dire: "Ella va messa tra i santi e gli eroi del nostro risorgimento. Sulla sua tomba si potrebbe scrivere: Visse e mori' per l'Italia e il suo dovere". Una sua biografia fu scritta nel 1915 da Luigi Bertelli, ossia Vamba.
