An attractive framed presentation incorporating an authentic autograph of Rudyard Kipling one of the most celebrated English writers of the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries and the first English-language writer to receive the Nobel Prize in Literature. Joseph Rudyard Kipling was born in Bombay in 1865 and spent much of his early life in British India an experience which profoundly influenced his literary career. His extraordinary range encompassed poetry short stories novels and children's literature. His best-known works include The Jungle Book 1894 The Second Jungle Book 1895 Kim 1901 and Just So Stories for Little Children 1902 together with such celebrated poems as "Mandalay" "Gunga Din" "Recessional" and "If - ." In 1907 Kipling was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature becoming both the first English-language recipient and at the age of forty-one the youngest recipient to that date. The Nobel committee praised his powers of observation originality of imagination virility of ideas and remarkable talent for narration. The autograph itself is particularly appealing: it is a clean legible example of Kipling's familiar flowing signature with the distinctive formation of the capital R and K and it presents extremely well within the custom display. n.p.: , 1900 unknown books

A classic work of children's literature and one of Kipling's most beloved titles Just So Stories compiles origin tales like "How the Leopard Got its Spots" and "How the Elephant Got his Trunk" and "How the Camel Got His Hump." The book was charmingly illustrated by Kipling himself who reported that the stories were born of out the bedtime tales that he told his daughter. Kipling is of course best known for The Jungle Book and its sequel which earned him the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1907 and secured his place in the canon of English storytelling. Based on folktales and legends that Kipling learned during his childhood in India the Jungle Books were met with huge success upon publication and continue to enthrall readers of all ages to this day. According to Professor Edwin L. Miller their publication "caused even severe critics of Kipling's previous work to admit that he is a writer of inspired genius." Largely focused on man's relationship to nature the Jungle Books in part narrate the tales of Mowgli a human "man-cub" raised by wolves as he tries to find his proper place in the world. For contributions like these Kipling became the first English-language writer and the youngest ever to receive the Nobel Prize for Literature. Fine. Macmillan and Co., Limited unknown books

Written in a playful and rhythmic style the stories have enchanted generations of young people and earned a place among the classics of children's literature. Macmillan and Co unknown books
