Inscribed by Bryan on the front free endpaper to fellow photojournalist and documentary filmmaker Bruce Harding. 8x10 black and white photo of Bryan and his NY Times obituary laid in. Also laid in is a 1975 International Film Seminar newsletter about the Flaherty Seminar Scholarship Drive dedicated to the memory of the recently deceased Julien Bryan. Bryan was an ambulance driver during World War I and later began to travel widely through Europe and Asia during the 1920s-30s documenting his visits in photographs and short films. He was the lone foreign journalist in Warsaw when the Germans started their invasion in September 1939. The images he managed to smuggle out were published in LIFE and LOOK Magazines later that year. Bryan published the first edition of Siege in 1940 and also made a film of the same title which was nominated for an Academy Award. He returned to Warsaw in 1959 and captured more images of the rebuilt city included portraits of many Polish residents who had survived the original siege and still lived in Warsaw. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 178 pages; Signed by Author .
