Jusqu'à présent ce volume ne m'est point parvenu. Ce me sera un véritable plaisir de pouvoir dire longuement et une fois de plus toute la vive admiration dont je vous prie de trouver ici tous les sentiments [...]" (25 May 1907). On headed stationery of the "Ligue pour la liberté de l'art". With 7 autograph lines signed by René Bazin to his Paris publisher Emile-Paul with a reminder to send his work to Fleischmann: "Cher Monsieur, je vous vais, je crois, communiqué cette demande. Ayez l'obliggeance, si cela n'a pas été fait, d'envoyer le volume [...]". - To an antiquarian bookseller ordering several catalogues, including one for which he has searched for two years: "Sauvez moi la vie en me donnant le no. 151 - Hotel Parisien de votre catalogue. Voici deux ans que je cherche cette brochure. Donnez-la moi! La postérité de mes lecteurs bénira votre nom! Et, maintenant, si vous pouviez y ajouter les nos 87 - Autographes, 89 - Babeuf, 125 - Corday, 177 - Napoleon abstraction, 220 - Blocqueville [...]". On headed stationery of the "Comité du Monument Victo Hugo à Waterloo". The recipient's name is erased. - The postcards to the same antiquary, ordering further catalogues. One postcard also bears the letterhead of the "Comité", the other shows a watercolour of the monument for French soldiers killed at Hougoumont, the erection of which was initiated by Fleischmann. - To a friend whose door he found locked, suspecting he had left his rural solitude to celebrate the "overthrow of the tyrants": "En trouvant aujourd'hui mercredi votre huis clos à 6 heures j'ai pensé qu'en d'agrestes solitudes vous étiez parti célèbrer la chute de tyrans [...]". The recipient's name is erased. - All with traces of former mounting on verso.

August, bedaure ich, Ihnen mitteilen zu müssen, dass ich in diesem Jahre weder für Österreich noch für Ungarn disponibel bin, da ich Mitte Dezember für den Rest der Saison nach Amerika gehe, und bis dahin vollständig besetzt bin [...]". - Schon mit fünf Jahren der Violine mächtig, wurde Carl Flesch später am Wiener sowie am Pariser Konservatorium ausgebildet und gab 1895 in Wien sein Debüt als Sologeiger; von 1897 bis 1902 war Flesch Professor am Konservatorium in Bukarest und erster Geiger des Streichquartetts der Königin von Rumänien; danach wirkte er in Amsterdam, Berlin, Baden-Baden und Philadelphia als Solist, Kammermusiker und Lehrer. "1933 trat Flesch als Solist unter Wilhelm Furtwängler zum letzten Mal in Deutschland auf. Er emigrierte zunächst nach London, 1939 in die Niederlande, während des Zweiten Weltkriegs über Ungarn in die Schweiz. 1943/44 gab er Meisterkurse am neugegründeten Konservatorium in Luzern. Flesch schrieb u. a. 'Die Kunst des Violinspiels' (2 Bde., 1923-28) und gab 'Meisterwerke der Violinliteratur' heraus. 1960 erschienen postum seine 'Erinnerungen eines Geigers'" (DBE).

Aber ich bin auch nicht Optimist genug, um aus den Spuren wirtschaftlichen Aufstiegs nach dem Krieg bereits weitgehende Hoffnung zu fassen [...]". Charming rather primitive scene showing four horseback riders two sidesaddle ladies halted at a fork in the road asking directions from several figures standing outside a wee cottage. "Equestrian = 'Which is the road to Liphook'" and the reply "'Straight hon'" reads the caption. We have come up empty-handed in further identifying Fletcher but this is a quaint rural scene nonetheless. unknown
