Le correspondant de René Char est l'ancien rédacteur en chef de Documents, revue des questions allemandes, René Wintzen, et René Char lui confie « je lis régulièrement votre revue Documents ». René Wintzen publie depuis la fin de la guerre une revue, Vent debout. Il organise également des rencontres entres auteurs. René Char le remercie pour sa lettre et lui assure que ses sentiments pour lui sont restés sympathiques. Le poète lui fait part de sa défiance envers les journalistes : « On ne se montre hélas jamais assez méfiant à l'égard de la légèreté des journalistes, ces spécialistes parisiens des fausses situations ». Cette suspicion vis-à-vis des journalistes remonte à la fin de la guerre. René Char est alors célébré sous le nom de Capitaine Alexandre pour sa participation active à la Résistance. Au même moment, le journal communiste Rouge Midi, commence une campagne de calomnie en accusant le poète de libertinage et de détournement de marchandises. Ces accusations touchent René Char et sa colère augmente démesurément quand un des journalistes du Rouge Midi, Georges Dubois, est suspecté d'avoir commandité le meurtre de son compagnon de guerre Gabriel Besson. - L'Isle-sur-la-Sorgue 2 novembre 1947, 21x26,9cm, 1 page sur une feuille. - Lettre autographe signée de René Char de 11 lignes écrites à l'encre noire. Pliures inhérentes à l'envoi postal. René Char écrit cette lettre à René Wintzen, ancien rédacteur en chef de Documents, revue des questions allemandes. René Wintzen commence alors à faire paraître une revue littéraire, Vent debout, dont il a envoyé à Char un exemplaire. Le poète l'encourage et lui dit de persévérer tout en « discriminant le bon grain de l'ivraie ». René Char s'excuse de ne pas avoir de texte achevé à lui fournir : « je le regrette. J'écris peu et ne suis qu'accessoirement poète ! ». Cette mise en avant d'une écriture rare correspond à l'idée que René Char se fait de la poésie et qu'il oppose au travail prôné par Valéry. René Char écrit peu et se soumet aux exigences de la poésie : « Je ne triche jamais. Il m'est arrivé d'attendre six mois un mot ou une formule [...]. C'est l'exigence de la poésie. Une exigence absolue. Aucun mot n'est gratuit. » (entretien entre René Char et Édith Mora, Nouvelles littéraires, 1965). L'auteur montre également une distanciation vis-à-vis de la poésie en cette fin de décennie. En effet, Char expérimente alors des genres nouveaux : il s'essaie au ballet avec La Conjuration en avril 1947, mais aussi au théâtre avec Le Soleil des eaux, à la musique en compagnie de Boulez, et enfin au cinéma. Il ne quitte toutefois jamais la poésie et publie la même année Le Poème pulvérisé. Acknowledging payment of £4 7s 9d for six months interest on money advanced by Chardin as a loan to the crown for the "carrying on a vigorous War against France". - The French traveller Jean Chardin had spent the years 1665-70 and 1671-77 in the Middle East and is considered the most knowledgeable westerner of his period with regard to Persian geography and customs. "In his adopted country Chardin became a tireless advocate for expanding English trade in the East. For over a decade he worked in close concert with Sir Josiah Child, director of the East India Company, to consolidate English trading monopolies in India. He persuaded Child that Armenian merchants, who played a crucial role as factors in Persia, could build up the trade and customs of English factories in Bombay and Madras. In 1688 and again in 1690 he served as an agent for the Armenian nation and negotiated contracts with the East India Company which gave Armenians liberal trading privileges in return for their services. During the same period Chardin expanded his own commercial interests in the Mughal empire, sending his younger brother Daniel to Fort St George to establish a diamond export business in partnership with two Portuguese Jewish merchants. In the 1690s Chardin's close ties with Child and the East India Company soured when Child reneged on promises to promote Chardin as his successor, and Chardin's investments in East India stock plummeted" (ODNB). - Letters by Chardin are rare on the market. A number of letters are preserved in the archive of Daniel Chardin at Yale (Elihu Yale was governor of Fort St. George from 1687 to 1692). Autograph letter signed to Admiral Lord Keith, apologising for keeping the papers so long, stating that "the question is st" by Charles Arbuthnot.
Very Good English Original autograph letter signed (ALS) by Arbuthnot. Treasury Chambers, 20 May 1816. 24x18 cm. 2 p. Charles Arbuthnot, (1767- 1850), diplomat and Tory politician. He was Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire between 1804 and 1807 and held a number of political offices. He was a good friend of the Duke of Wellington. His second wife, Harriet, became a hostess at Wellington's society dinners, and wrote an important diary cataloging contemporary political intrigues. Arbuthnot also held a number of diplomatic postings, notably as consul general in Portugal between 1800 and 1801, as Minister to Sweden. He was appointed on 6 June 1804 as Ambassador to the Ottoman Empire and left Constantinople on 29 January 1807. In 1804 he was sworn of the Privy Council.

The "Merrie Monarch" thus nicknamed because of the liberality of his court and the public's joy at the return to normalcy after the tyrannical rule of Oliver Cromwell and the Puritans reclaimed the throne of England Scotland and Ireland in 1659 after exile on mainland Europe for nine years; he managed to retain control until his death in 1685. DS on vellum 1p 14" X 9�" Whitehall England n.y. 1663 October 13. Good. Light folds none weakened; bit of age toning about some edges. Royal military appointment naming John Griffith an "Ensigne of the Company of Hoote. in Sr. William Killegrew's Regiment" and commanding him "carefully to discharge the duty of an Ensigne by exercising and well disciplining both the inferior Officers & Souldiers of that Company who are to obey you as their Ensigne." Signed by EDWARD NICHOLAS 1593-1669 at lower right -- noted English statesman close advisor to Charles I Charles II's Secretary of State. In the upper left corner is affixed a 2" square paper seal onto which the circular Royal seal has been blind-embossed and to the right of this Charles II signs with his usual large "Charles R." While the text of this document is only lightly faded the signature is more so -- it's legible but faint as is Nicholas's signature as well. This document has been elegantly matted and framed: Free-floated against a gold-and-black matte with a textured cream outer matte. To left of the document is a second matte opening featuring a superb 4�" X 7" steel-engraved portrait of "Charles the Second" published 1808 by John White of London. When France's King Henry II died in 1559 and his sickly 15-year-old heir Francis II followed the next year the throne went to 10-year-old Charles Maximilian who became Charles IX; his mother Catherine de' Medici dominated his reign which is noted for the Wars of Religion and for the infamous St. Bartholomew's Day Massacre of 1572. Partial vellum DS 1p 11" X 8" n.p. n.y. September 1570 lightly pencilled in another hand. Very good. Folds and mild bit of wear evident but overall handsome and boldly penned. Though penned in difficult early French which is to modern French what Elizabethan English is to modern English and not accompanied by a translation this is a probate approval legal document. Below six lines of finely penned legalese Charles signs at left with his usual enormous signature in a different and somewhat lighter ink. Below this appears another sentence in a large flamboyant hand which appears to refer to Provence and huge ornate signature of an official. This atmospheric piece has been archivally free-floated against a cream matte with a surrounding raised cream matte framed in a contemporary 1" walnut frame overall dimensions 18�" X 16". Informative document about the struggle to end the Polish War of Succession: "Obwohlen Unsere Waffen in gegenwärtig wider den Erb-Feind Christlichen Namens [...] nichtes unterlassen / den fortgang seiner Land-verderblichen absichten zu hemmen [...] so ist doch aus dem bisherigen erfolg der ausschlag nicht abzusehen / ob eine Hoffnung zu baldigen Frieden zu machen oder eine bereitschafft zu ferneren Krieg vorzukehren seye [...] Als haben Wir Uns gnädigst entschlossen [...] mit denen treu-gehorsamsten Ständen dises Ertz-Hertzogthums Oesterreich unter der Enns einen allgemeinen Land-Tag auf nächst-künfftigen 17ten Monats-Tag Novembris allhier in Unserer Stadt Wien zu halten [...]". - The peace treaty ending the war that had begun in 1733 was to be signed on November 18.

To Guillaume de Blégiers, Belgian consul in Marseille, thanking him for a positive reaction to a conference on the Suez Canal that had been organized by Charles-Roux in his function as president of the Suez Canal Company. He also thanks Blegiers for sending him an article on the controversy surrounding a potential pioneering role of the Austrian engineer Alois Negrelli in conceptualizing the Suez Canal and gives his opinion: "Je suis très sensible à l'attention que vous avez eue de m'adresser vos félicitations pour ma conférence sur le Canal de Suez et je vous remercie très vivement. - J'ai lu par ailleurs la note sur Negrelli, que vous avez bien voulu m'adresser joint à votre lettre. Je connais bien la controverse à laquelle il y est fait allusion. Cette controverse d'ailleurs a été surtout exploitée pendant de nombreuses années par les Italiens, qui ont toujours revendiqué Négrelli comme un des leurs, ce qui est évidemment entièrement erroné." - Together with a carbon copy of Blégier's original letter. - On stationery of the "Compagnie Universelle du Canal Maritime de Suez".

'Adminicule' kann man auch laßen, ich habe es nur gestrichen weil ich es nicht kannte.
