Fine '800. Incisione in rame all'acquaforte, b/n, cm 10 x 15 (alla lastra). L'Autore (Laneside, 1834 – Boulogne - sur Mer, 1891) fu pittore, incisore, critico e illustratore di libri d'arte. Studiò a Londra e soggiornò a Parigi, conducendo un'esistenza piuttosto primitiva che si riscontra in alcune sue opere. Raffinata incisione firmata in lastra in basso a sinistra. Rifilato il margine laterale destro in prossimità della battuta. Buono stato.

He gives a good description of native life and sport. He journeyed through Natal to the Orange Free State. An important work with a great amount of detail about native life and something about sport as well. VG to vg in half leather binding marbled boards and endpapers. There is a note before Chapter one that the portrait of the author called for as frontis has been canceled and another one substituted. But in fact there is no frontis in this copy.
