A few months later Robinson regained the title by stopping Turpin in the 10th. A third fight never happened. Articles provide coverage of fights between Primo Carnera and Max Bear Barney Ross and Tony Canzoneri and Jimmy McLarnin and Al Singer. Another article covers the career of 'The Boston Tar Baby' Sam Langford. Langford was one of the best African American fighters of his day but was avoided by both black and white fighters. After winning the heavyweight title Jack Johnson preferred to take on to the hill white fighters than face a real challenge from Langford. Perhaps the significance of this contest was that it would be only the third time in history that two African Americans would fight for the heavyweight title. Non importa che Johann sia il più bravo, il titolo di campione dei pesi mediomassimi gli verrà negato, nonostante la vittoria sul ring. It was patronised by royaly and nobility although often illegal. It differed from boxing as fighting took place with bare fists and bouts lasted as long as the fighters could stand - often seventy or more rounds. Severe injury was the rule and sometimes fighters died. Illustrated.

Autore fra i più significativi della letteratura italiana contemporanea per la maestria con cui inocula la finzione nella verità di una presa diretta sul reale, dimostrando così all'inverso il nodo dolorosamente vero di ogni costruzione finzionale, non importa quanto elaborata, quanto formalizzata, Antonio Franchini si accanisce sul proprio stile e rivela l'opprimente insufficienza del linguaggio, in ciò portando alle conseguenze estreme la regressione di certo verismo: è infatti nelle zone in cui il linguaggio si disarticola e il silenzio riempie come magma le fenditure che si inoltra Franchini; nelle zone in cui - di fronte all'uccisione casuale di un pugile - lo stile non può che azzerarsi, la parola ridursi alla fonazione di un cronista, la frase a una voce protesa nel vuoto.
