Annual end of season club dinners where prizes were presented with speeches often with guest speakers from other clubs. The publications usually included details of the speakers menu and some club events details. This material came from the archives of Will Townsend who was a leading figure in British club cycle racing head of the Road Time Trials Council in the 1950s and of Westerley Road Club. He had an important role in the post-war reconciliation between time trialists and road racers in Britain. He was often a guest speaker at other cycling club annual dinners as here with The Charlotteville CC. The material here: 1. White card wrappers bound in blue cord and lettered in blue with photo inside front of club's founder on his bike and text on the history of the club as well as winners etc. Condition details: Very Good. Il cicloturismo al tempo del Liberty. 100 percorsi di 100 anni fa. Lombardia e dintorni 1895-1904
ill., br. Erano i tempi in cui la bicicletta si definiva "macchina" (o "bicicletto", al maschile, fino a fine '800). Il ciclista era il "velocipedista" e le donne in bicicletta "signore biciclettiste", a cui spesso veniva consigliato un abbigliamento e un portamento consono. Nascevano i primi "globe-trotter" ciclisti, che pedalavano per tutta l'Europa. In un articolo, un cronista descrive la sua traversata ciclistica sulla strada napoleonica del Sempione. Domodossola-Briga: 60 km in 10 ore, con bici a mano nelle gallerie. Il passaggio doganale in bicicletta era un'operazione molto complessa e si svolgeva in 15/30 minuti. E c'era un dazio molto oneroso: si pagava fino a 0,70 lire al chilo. Per una volta battevamo gli Svizzeri in quanto a manutenzione delle strade e sul servizio in generale: "lo stradino al rifugio dell'Engeloch è sgarbatissimo... gli ultimi 3 chilometri sopra Brig sono in cattivissima manutenzione, molto fangosi e polverosissimi".
