‎In seinem kurzen Leben ist der Formel-1-Weltmeister Jochen Rindt zur Kultfigur geworden - ein Idol nicht nur für seine Zeitgenossen, auch für nachfolgende Generationen. Anlässlich seines 70. Geburtstags legt Martin Pfundner eine Bildbiographie vor, die unter anderem eine Fülle bisher unveröffentlichter Fotos zeigt. Jochen Rindt ist vielen als verwegener und spektakulärer Fahrer der Grand-Prix-Geschichte in Erinnerung. Er wurde am 18. April 1942 in Mainz geboren, verlor seine Eltern während des Zweiten Weltkriegs bei einem Luftangriff und wuchs bei seinen Großeltern in Graz auf. Rindt blieb zwar zeitlebens deutscher Staatsbürger, sportrechtlich galt er aber als Österreicher. Als Naturtalent mit Intelligenz, Risikobereitschaft und Mut hat er in kürzester Zeit unglaubliche Erfolge als Rennfahrer erzielt. Sein Kultstatus beruhte nicht nur auf seinen Grand-Prix-Erfolgen, auch seine Ehe mit dem finnischen Fotomodell Nina Lincoln, sein Humor und seine Leichtigkeit trugen maßgeblich dazu bei. 1970 verunglückte der charismatische Rennfahrer in Monza tödlich. Sein damaliger Punktevorsprung genügte aber, um ihn posthum zum Formel-1-Weltmeister erklären zu können - bislang einzigartig in der Geschichte des Motorsports.‎

Brown vinyl over boards over plastic comb binding. 20 adhesive card leaves covered in clear plastic film overlay sheets. 129 color snapshot photographs drugstore prints adhesvie mounted to rectos and versos along with numerous clippings and scrap elements. Photos frequently trimmed or cut to fit collages. Contents firmly adhered to pages. Adhesive strip label to outer spine with "CHARLOTTE 1981" in blue ink. Otherwise exceptionally clean and well preserved. <br/><br/>A singular album of vernacular photography documenting the road trip of a King City Ontario Canada couple to 2 NASCAR Winston Cup Series races in North Carolina during October 1981: The Holly Farms 400 at North Wilkesboro Speedway and the National 500 at Charlotte Motor Speedway. About 45 of the 129 photographs document the road trip to and from the races though the majority of views capture period NASCAR action spectator culture car designs etc. The couple enjoyed intimate access to several of the drivers including Darrell Waltrip who dominated the sport in the early 1980's and winning both races shown here as well as car owner and sport luminary Junior Johnson who apparently invited the couple to his home where they captured at least half a dozen views. An inscribed color 8" x 10" of the two posed with Johnson reads: "To my friends / from Canada / Junior Johnson / #11." The photographs are often uncommonly clear and well executed and the album with its frequent collage assemblies incorporating clipped magazine and newspaper text composes a striking vernacular production. A naive artist's book capturing a particularly vibrant period of identification with the American automobile and motorsport. hardcover‎

Notations throughout contents typically to the page sometimes over prints. Mild to moderate handling wear. About good. <br/><br/>A striking small archive of images compiled by an early 20th Century automotive insurance adjuster with the Fireman's Fund Insurance Co. of California. The majority of dated prints notated as "1912" with a single image of a burned car dated 1908 with the notation: "J.R. Rausey Car / Burned Mar. 29/08 / Loss Paid Mar. 30/08" The majority of prints capture single totalled automobiles typically appearing to be casualties of fire one with a large banner advertising Fireman's draped over the wreckage scene reading: "I AM INSURED / IN THE FIREMAN'S FUND INSURANCE / ARE YOU" ; three appear to show the adjuster's car with lettering advertising the firm and 9 enlarged views capture the aftermath of a fire at the Lattimore Paint Shop of Frenso apparently an automotive paint shop in August of 1912. A compelling group on disaster and an exceedingly early item on automobile insurance. unknown‎
