Ein Jahr spater ging der Wagen in Serie, und die Typbezeichnung wurde in 911 geandert, da sich Peugeot dreistellige Fahrzeugbezeichnungen mit einer Null in der Mitte hatte schutzen lassen.<br>Wahrend mehr als 40 Jahren Bauzeit durchlief der Elfer zwar vieleEvolutionsschritte, aber an der von Ferdinand Alexander Porsche gezeichneten Linie wurde ebenso wenig geruttelt wie am Layout mit einem 6-Zylinder-Boxer im Heck. Heute gibt es den Elfer auch mit Allradantrieb, der Boxer ist inzwischen wassergekuhlt und die einstige Heckschleuder so domestiziert, dass auch durchschnittlich begabte Autofahrer unfallfrei ans Ziel kommen.
