More than 35 various scrap and ephemera elements in all. Front cover moderately worn discolored. Some wrinkling and warping internally. Overall very good. <br/><br/>Fascinating salesman's catalogue produced by British Ford marketing their cars to American dealerships. Struggling financially Post-WWII Britain enacted an "Export or Die" mandate for its domestic carmakers in hopes of injecting more stable currencies into its economy. This act mandated aggressive sales in foreign markets and especially in The United States. Ford of Britain had operated as a subsidiary of the Ford Motor Company since 1909 producing an entirely different line from its American division. Since it was indeed a British car manufacturer Ford was forced compete with itself. These materials date from a 1957-1958 push aimed at getting existing U.S. Ford dealerships to sell and service the cars of their English counterpart. Included are specification sheets and sample advertisements for the various models: 10 approximately 8" x 10" black and white promotional photographs a body color chart with paint samples dealer pricing and cost sheets with option breakdowns and import costs analysis charts comparing the Anglia and Prefect that's right the Ford Prefect with comparable and competing European imports blank sales forms a service policy paint mixing formulas and a list of the financial spatial and service requirements of potential dealers. The modest sales of English Ford passenger cars in the U.S. peaked in 1958-1959 at approximately 75000 compared with an estimated 1.5 million units sold by Ford USA in 1957 alone. Numbers limped along through the 1960's with the last model The Cortina discontinued in 1971. A rare surviving source from an unusual chapter in American and British automotive history as well as a uncommon example of marketing and trade automobiliana. hardcover

Illustrated with 1 folded leaf a facsimile log-sheet for Jenkins' 48 hour run Sept 21 - 23 1936 showing 7 parameters MPH Oil Pressure H2O out engine oil temp axle oil temp transmission oil temp & atmospheric temp as recorded over a 52 hour period. 16 captioned b/w snapshots ~ 2-3/4" x 4-1/2" 15 of the car et al & 1 of Jenkins tipped-in to 4 leaves following the log-sheet. 11-1/8" x 8-1/4" <br/><br/>1 of 7 carbon copies of Robinson's typewritten report to H. C. Bougey Chief Chemist General Motors wherein Robinson details the results of sponsored speed runs in 1936 "to establish Worlds' speed records with a view to utilizing results for advertising and sales promotion." The car built was anchored by Duesenberg chassis and powered with a Curtiss Conqueror Model V-1570 engine producing 445 HP. Tires were Firestone. All lubricants from engine to chassis were Robinson. The driver was David Abbott "Ab" Jenkins who just the year prior had established a 24 hour land speed record of 135 mph. For these sponsored attempts as sanctioned by the American Automobile Association there were 4 testing periods: Sept. 7th 21st - 23rd & the 28th. And resulting were the establishment of 19 speed records from 169.57 mph for 100 mile distance to the 48 hour endurance at 148.62 mph. And oh yeah Jenkins upped his 24-hour record to 153.76 mph. Since the letter notes 7 other copies of this report were prepared we can't in good conscious term it "unique" but certainly a rare item documenting the constant quest for more speed in this case a successful one at Utah's Bonneville Salt Flats a place made famous by Jenkins and others in these feats of automotive 'chest-thumping'. Mansfield Ohio: Mid-Ohio Sports Car Club 1957. About 88 completed entry forms printed forms filled out in manuscript ink and 3 manuscript ink ledger pages. All housed in an about contemporary snap-ring binder. Additional brief manuscript notes of correspondence occasionally attached to forms. Contents with general mild handling wear. Solidly very good. <br/><br/>An archive of entry forms for a Sunday May 26 1957 road rally the "Johnny Appleseed Rallye" staged by the Mid-Ohio Sports Car Club of Mansfield. The event appears to have been dominated by popular European roadsters of the day applications are notated with MG Porsche Jag VW Austin Healy etc. The occasional American make does appear though we count only about 3 in a field of more than 80 "T-Bird" "Pontiac" and "Nash-Rambler." The entry fee was $8/per and while the specific route of the race is not disclosed the Northeast Ohio section of the SCCA continues to run the race over a 140 mile rural course through Tuscarawas Carroll and Harrison counties south of Canton. The forms are arranged roughly in the order of finish with the apparent winner being an Earl D. Pfeifer Jr. Canton Ohio. Additionally of note we count at least four female drivers and several more navigators the highest finishing being the driver-navigator duo of Virginia M. Kirk also of Canton and Charlotte L. Hursh who claimed an impressive 5th overall and 1st in the ladies division. An exceedingly ephmeral record of American sports car and rally racing of particular interest to Ohio. Overall sound very good. <br/><br/>An uncommon photo booklet featuring two wide views of the racetrack and 22 images of competing cars in the 1948 running of the Indianapolis 500 published by William J. Mickler's Tower Studios official track photographer beginning in 1946. Photographs are offset reproduced with text in the negative of each identifying drivers. The race saw Mauri Rose win his second consecutive 500 and the diversity of cars found in the images show the creeping influence of European design which would come to dominate the roadster era of the sport in the decades to come. An uncommon surviving item on the rich history of track photography at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Tower Studios paperback

WITH A single detached leaf from a 1980's sticky page photo album with 3 article clippings mounted to recto and verso. Prints about near fine. <br/><br/>An assembly of well executed enlarged photographs documenting the restoration of a circa-1930's California sprint car by a Paul "Punky" Grosso of Van Nuys California. A single print shows Grosso kneeling before the finished product and the balance show wide views of the aluminum bodied "Lion Head Special" as well as detailed up-close shots of its various components. An accompanying article clipping provides a detailed backstory on the car and it's discovery by Grosso in pieces in a Phoenix-area garage sometime about 1980. An appealing and well executed series of photographs with a detailed backstory of a survivor from an important era in open-wheel American race car design and competition. unknown

Snapshots of the 1964 SCCA Convention Classic Sports Car Race
Smithfield Texas 1964. 30 black and white snapshot photographs. Drugstore prints each approximately 3 1/4" square on glossy "A KODAK" photo paper. In original processing envelope. Prints with a mild unobtrusive curling otherwise near fine. <br/><br/>A small archive about two rolls worth of snapshot photography capturing the Feburary 1964 "Convention Classic" a Championship Sports Car auto race coinciding with the SCCA's annual convention held nearby in Dallas. This '64 event was notable as something of a well publicized stand-off between GM's 1963 Corvette Grand Sport and Ford's Carroll Shelby designed A-Production Cobra. Most of the images are captured from the spectator's area though there are a handful of up-close views of competition cars including two clear shots of the Mecom Racing entry #36A 1963 Corvette Grand Sport chassis #004 one of only five built ; one view of the Mecom Lola MK6 GT one of only three built ; and one of the hood up on a 1964 Shelby Cobra 289 Roadster. Photography of this event appears exceedingly uncommon. A worthy visual record of an important event in American sports car racing. unknown

Archive of 120 vernacular borderless color snapshot photographs of the Detroit Grand Prix taken in 1986 1987 and 1988.<br/><br/>In the summer of 1982 the US became the first country to host three World Championship Grands Prix in one season with the older Grand Prix West races in Long Beach and Las Vegas joined by the newly established Detroit Grand Prix in Michigan near the General Motors headquarters. The Detroit race continued to be held annually for the next six years in spite of its growing reputation for its narrow bumpy track a result of the race taking place on a closed street course in downtown Detroit and typically hot humid weather. These factors would ultimately push FISA to declare the track unsafe ending the circuit's affiliation with Formula One in 1988 to be replaced by the CART-sanctioned Detroit Indy Grand Prix the following year. <br/><br/>The photographs in the archive document an attendee's perspective of the races from 1986-1988 won all three years by Brazilian champion driver Ayrton Senna. The photographs are taken from both the main grandstand and the garages with views of the vibrant car designs downtown cityscape and track layout on full display. An uncommonly thorough look at three successive years in the race's history more broadly capturing the end result of Formula One's attempts to expand internationally throughout the decade.<br/><br/>Photographs 5.25 x 3.5 inches housed in three separate envelopes grouping the photographs by year 1986 1987 and 1988.
