Il transatlantico Cristoforo Colombo, in navigazione tra Genova e Napoli, dopo aver superato il faro di Palmaiola (Arcipelago Toscano), urtava contro un ostacolo. S'avvertì a bordo una forte scossa. Poco piu tardi, rischiarato lo specchio di mare a prua, si ebbe la spiegazione dello strano fatto, la nave aveva speronato un enorme capodoglio; la sua prua si era incastrata nel corpo del cetaceo. Per liberarsene dovette far marcia indietro; il capodoglio si staccò e sparì sotto i flutti. E la Cristoforo Colombo riprendeva la rotta verso sud." "Sensazionale avventura di Fangio. All'Avana, dove si trovava per partecipare al Gran Premio automobilistico, il popolarissimo asso del volante e stato rapito da ribelli armati i quali volevano sabotare la corsa e dimostrare al governo di Fulgencio Batista che essi erano i veri padroni della situazione. Juan Manuel Fangio è stato trattato con ogni riguardo e potè assistere alla trasmissione televisiva della gara fino al momento in cui avvenne l'incidente che si concluse con la morte di sei persone. Solo verso sera Fangio fu lasciato libero nei pressi dell'Ambasciata argentina.".

Near fine in a very good dust jacket. Jacket design by Michael Turner. In collaboration with Marcello Giambertone. Juan Manuel Fangio was an Argentine racing car driver. He dominated the first decade of Formula One racing winning the World Drivers' Championship five times. From childhood he abandoned his studies to pursue auto mechanics. In 1938 he debuted in Turismo Carretera competing in a Ford V8. In 1940 he competed with Chevrolet winning the Grand Prix International Championship and devoted his time to the Argentine Turismo Carretera becoming its champion a title he successfully defended a year later. Fangio then competed in Europe between 1947 and 1949 where he achieved further success. He won the World Championship of Drivers five times—a record which stood for 47 years until beaten by Michael Schumacher—with four different teams Alfa Romeo Ferrari Mercedes-Benz and Maserati a feat that has not been repeated. A member of the Formula 1 Hall of Fame he is regarded by many as one of the greatest F1 drivers of all time and holds the highest winning percentage in Formula One – 46.15% – winning 24 of 53 Formula One races he entered. Fangio is the only Argentine driver to have won the Argentine Grand Prix having won it four times in his career—the most of any driver. Temple Press Limited hardcover

This is a very large 13.3" x 11" hardcover with German and English text bound in dark blue cloth with large light blue pamplet titled "Mercedes-Benz Typ 300SL" like new in plastic holders inside the rear cover dark blue glossy jacket strong slipcase covered in blue clothcopy #2484 of 3000.
