Chi non lo è, avrà l'occasione forse di comprendere cosa vivono e cosa provano quei signori che incontra ogni tanto per strada, magari la mattina presto d'inverno ai meno due sotto zero, o di pomeriggio d'estate quando ci si squaglia, che se ne vanno bardati come pagliacci con casco, occhiali e giubbini colorati, tutti sudati, infangati o bagnati come pulcini, tutti insieme ragazzini giovani e ragazzini vecchi, a spingere su quei due terribili pedali. La bici è perniciosa, la bici è contagiosa, noi lo sappiamo bene. Dall'eroina si riesce anche ad uscire... dalla bici mai!

The letter addresses the recent purchase of the Berkeley Barb by Alan Coult from Max Scherr after negotiations for a sale to Tribe members broke down. The letter expresses distaste for Coult as well as disappointment in the Barb under his ownership while touting the Berkeley Tribe. The Berkeley Tribe was a radical counterculture underground newspaper from Berkeley California formed after a split with the Berkeley Barb over labor and ownership see this letter issues. The Tribe embraced more radical and left wing causes than the Barb. GOOD condition. Fold crease present. Moderate to heavy uneven browning especially along the right edge. Formulas for the treatment of various illnesses as well as poisons to eliminate bed bugs cockroaches and flies powders to treat horses and cattle and several "Indian" cures for hydrophobia asthma and charms to keep away disease.<br/>Dr. Blue Mountain Joe was considered an illegal "itinerant vendor" of medicines and nostrums by an Illinois Supreme Court ruling in 1889. The good "doctor" apparently had a traveling variety show with entertainers including musicians strongmen Native Americans "real or pretend" etc. He would give free evening shows "consisting of music singing jokes wire-walking and other performances" then use the venue to peddle his patent medicines to the gathered crowds. see: Twentieth Annual Report of the Illinois State Board of Health Springfield IL: 1898 Court Decisions pp. xcix-ci.
