NO underlining. NO highlighting. NO margin notes. This issue contains poetry by many contributors including four poems by Billy Collins. One is the first publication of THE FRANKENSTEIN POET A slightly modified version of the poem was later included in his book THE APPLE THAT ASTONISHED PARIS published by the University of Arkansas Press in 1988. There are other 3 Collins poems in this issue i.e. ADVICE TO THE LOVELORN; DAYDREAM; and ACCORDING TO THE INTRODUCTION -- none of which appear to have been reprinted. Ca. 1879. 25 chromolithographic plates images approximately 10 1/2 x 15 inches mounted as issued on sheet size 16 1/2 x 22 3/4 inches loose in decorative card portfolio with cloth spine. Portfolio cloth spine split: covers loose and worn with abrasions cloth tie at right missing a few notations in thick pen on inner front cover. The majority of the plates are in very good condition with light scattered foxing to card supports. There is heavier foxing to the margins of the following plates: Konigsspitze Ausfluss aus dem Raiblsee Gosausee Bruneck Kufstein Hintersee Hallstadter-See. One inch tear at edge of card support of plates Salzburg Ausfluss aus dem Raibl well outside plate. Some tissue paper adhesion to plates Castell Tenno Konigsspitze Gosausee Ferleiten little abrasion to right edge of image Rosengarten bei Bozen. Three plates have pinholes just above and beneath the image; chip to upper right corner of Gosausee. Twenty five large handsome chromolithographs on textured paper after paintings by Franz Alt the majority J. Varonne Ad. Waagen A. Hansch Carl Hasch Carl Moser E. Mahlknecht A. Podesta and A. Kappis. The views are titled on a small paper label glued to the verso of the sheets although the titles are not always exactly the same as on the title page listing. Titles as marked on verso of plates are: Berchtesgaden lightest foxing to plate Innsbruck Hallstadter-See Salzburg view of Kapuzinerberg Riva am Garda-See Konig-See Ferleiten Kufstein Ober-see Bruneck Zell am See Hintersee Castell Tenno Bucht Von Balanza corrected in pencil to Pallanza Salzburg Vorstadt Stein Ausfluss aus dem Raiblsee Konigsspitze Monte Cristallo Gosausee Partenkirchen titled "Zugspitze im Baierischen Hochgebirge" on title page Rosengarten bei Bozen Velder-See Grundelsee Hohenschwangau Traunkirchen. No date of publication in the portfolio but a date of 1879 is given in the copy with 8 plates held by Herzogin Anna Amalia Bibliothek / Klassik Stiftung Weimar.
