Ich halte sie, wie ich Ihnen sagte, für sehr interessant u. zugleich für Ihr Blatt passend [...]" - III. (1. VIII. 1829): Übersendet Artikel für die Enzyklopädie zu den Stichworten Heremias, Hermachos, Hermias und Hermotinus. - IV. (8. IV. 1829): "[...] Ich kann [...] gegen die mitgetheilte Anzeige nichts haben; in Ihrem Verfahren einen andern Redacteur zu suchen, wenn Sie durch Vertrag mit mir nicht mehr gebunden, also auch darüber kein Wort. Was aber Ihre Äusserungen anlangt von gesunkenem Absatz des Taschenbuchs [...] so finde ich mich doch veranlasst [...] meine Meinung unumwunden auszusprechen [...] Die Verminderung des Absatzes des besagten Taschenbuchs hat [...] in den schlechten Kupfern seinen Grund [...]" - Wendt lehrte in Leipzig und Göttingen. Er gab. u. a. das "Taschenbuch zum geselligen Vergnügen" (1821-25) heraus. In Leipzig war Wendt Mitglied der Freimaurerloge "Minerva zu den drei Palmen". - Geringe Altersspuren.‎

‎Interessanter, sehr früher Brief des 22jährigen Lyrikers an den Verleger Axel Juncker in Berlin, der Werfel nach dem Erscheinen seines Erstlingswerkes, des Gedichtbandes "Der Weltfreund", eingeladen hatte, sich an einer geplanten - wohl expressionistischen - Anthologie zu beteiligen. Doch Werfel lehnt ab und zeigt für einen Anfänger ein beachtliches Selbstbewußtsein: "[...] Es sind da natürlich nur innere Gründe im Spiel. Denn erstens wünsche ich, daß mein erstes Buch nicht mehr zitiert wird und so bald wie möglich in Vergessenheit gerät. Und zweitens glaube ich, wären meine neuen Gedichte den andern Herren, und wieder umgekehrt die Andern meinen Gedichten unbequem [...] Was den Vertrag anbelangt [...] stehn die Dinge so. Da ich mich von Oktober an infolge einiger Auseinandersetzungen mit meinem Vater ganz auf eigene Füße stellen muß und ich weder journalistische, noch irgendwie lukrative Fähigkeiten habe, bin ich gezwungen, es zu versuchen, mir durch meine poetischen Arbeiten eine Existenz zu schaffen. Sie dürfen nicht denken, daß ich noch etwa über den Weltfreund rede. Die 300 K[ronen] für die 2te Auflage mögen ruhig passieren. - Es handelt sich um meine nächsten Werke, die ich Ihnen nur unter sehr guten Bedingungen überlassen könnte. Ob Sie für einen lyrischen Autor gewillt sind, mehr zu tun, als es Brauch ist, weiß ich nicht. Jedenfalls bitte ich Sie aber höflichst, mir Ihre Ansicht mitzuteilen, weil ja vielleicht dann die Formalität der fünf nächsten Einsendungn entfiele. Im nächsten Jahr erhielt er im Zuge einer Hausberufung den Lehrstuhl des 1832 verstorbenen Ordinarius Christian Daniel Beck. Von 1849 bis zu seinem Eintritt in den Ruhestand 1865 war er Mitdirektor des philologischen Seminars. 1846 wurde er als ordentliches Mitglied in die Königlich Sächsische Gesellschaft der Wissenschaften aufgenommen. - Einrisse mit Klebefilm hinterlegt.‎
