Containing songs such as Roslin Castle My Ain Fireside and Oh Dinna Think Bonnie Lassie lyrics and music are recorded as well as numerous informative notes accompanying the songs which date back to the fifteenth century. In half morocco half brown cloth. Externally mostly smart with the odd small mark to boards. Edgewear with rubbing to the joints heavier to the front joint with small signs of cracking and to the extremities. Signs of creasing to spine. The authors aimed to provide extremely accurate woodcut representations of the original Holbein designs to readers. With typed transcription. 4-3/8" x 3-1/2" <br/><br/>Samuel Lover also known as "Ben Trovato" "well invented" was an Irish songwriter composer novelist and a painter of portraits perhaps best known today for his two novels Rory O'Moore in its first form a ballad and Handy Andy. <br /> <br />Thomas Dibdin was an English dramatist and songwriter a song of which Dickens' quotes in Little Dorrit. <br /> <br />In this note Lover expresses his regret not being able to attend Dibdin's anniversary dinner a benefit but nevertheless forwards "the price of my ticket" a gracious move on Lover's part as Dibdin in the latter part of his career was of but modest means. unknown books

Full subtitle reads: 'By Order of the Executors of the late Sir Robert W. Dibdin removed from 55 Redington Road Hampstead: of the late James Duncan Campbell Craignish Esq. C.M.G. removed from 18 Clanricarde Gardens W.2.: of the late S. Morell Esq.; and from other sources.' Three of the early lots of books marked in pencil as sold with a slip headed 'Robinson & Fisher' giving the total hammer price as £10 12s 0d. Lot 47 is described as 'A Woody Landscape with Figures and Cattle' by Breughel; lot 122 'A Portrait of Charles I in Armour' by Van Dyck; lot 140 'A Landscape with Cottage and Figures' by Gainsborough; lot 161 'A Portrait of a Lady in Yellow Dress and Green Scarf and A Portrait of a Man in a Ruff' by Rubens; others attibuted to Van Dyck and Breugel.
