WILLIAMS Tennessee 1911 1983
Signed Playbill -- "Slapstick Tragedy
New York 1966. pamphlet. 52 pages 9 x 6 inches scarce signed Playbill for the opening-night performance of "Slapstick Tragedy" on February 22 1966 at the Longacre Theatre starring Margaret Leighton and Kate Reid. The critics were very harsh and Williams' easily-bruised ego kept him away from the theatre after opening night. "Slapstick Tragedy" closed four days later yielding just seven performances. Boldly signed on the credits page with the additional signature of actor Zoe Caldwell. Near fine condition.

unknown books

WILLIAMS Tennessee 1911 1983
Signed Playbill -- "The Seven Descents of Myrtle
New York 1968. pamphlet. very good. Rare signed Playbill for the premiere performance on March 27 1968 of the David Merrick production of "The Seven Descents of Myrtle" at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. The show was canceled after only 29 performances. This Playbill is signed on the cast page by Tennessee Williams and actress Estelle Parsons who was nominated for a Tony Award. This was the shortest run of any Tennessee Williams play to have appeared on Broadway thus accounting for this signed Playbill's extreme rarity. Minor smudging on the upper right corner of the front cover but still in very good condition.

unknown books

WILLIAMS Tennessee 1911 1983
Signed Playbill from the premier performance of "Clothes for a Summer Hotel
New York 1980. pamphlet. Exceedingly rare signed Playbill for the premier performance of "Clothes for a Summer Hotel" at The Cort Theatre March 26 1980 which also happened to be Williams 69th birthday. Near fine condition.

The play was about the relationship between F. Scott Fitzgerald and his wife Zelda. A critical and commercial failure it was Williams' last play to debut on Broadway during his lifetime and closed after 14 performances. Williams has signed in full on the cast page directly beneath the show's title as has its star Geraldine Page. According to The New York Times "Tennessee Williams took the failure of Hotel very personally - vowing never to stage an opening night for one of his plays on Broadway ever again." Known for his bouts with mood swings and depression it is unlikely that he signed more than a handful of this Playbill edition.

unknown books
